AFC Week 6 Predictions

Top 3 AFC Matchups – Week 6

We are five weeks into the NFL season and two teams are starting to create some separation from the rest of the pack in the AFC; Baltimore and New York. They are both are 4-1 and playing at a high level especially on defense. Houston’s fast start has already started to fizzle with double-digit losses in two of its last three games. Indianapolis (3-2) has already lost as many games as it did all last season and San Diego is off to its patented slow-start at 2-3. One team to watch over the next couple of weeks is Pittsburgh. The Steelers are coming off a bye with their starting QB Ben Roethlisberger back and looking to join the Ravens and the Jets as one of the elite teams in the conference.

Here is a look at my top three matchups in the AFC for Week 6 of the NFL season. All odds are provided by BetUS.com.

vs.

Kansas City @ Houston (-5)

The Colts handed Kansas City its first loss of the year last week, but it was by no means easy. The Chiefs defense, the backbone of this team, held QB Peyton Manning to 244 yards passing with no TD’s. They are currently ranked third in the league in points allowed.

Houston’s hot start has quickly chilled as the Texans are 1-2 in their last three games and have been outscored by a total of 31 points. Last week, the Giants held QB Matt Schaub to 196 yards passing and RB Arian Foster to just 25 yards on the ground.

The Chiefs are 5-1 ATS in their last six games as an underdog and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Texans are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a SU loss. This game comes down to Kansas City’s defense against Houston’s offense with the Chiefs keeping it close enough to at least cover.

vs.

Baltimore @ New England (-3)

Baltimore has emerged as one of the top teams in the AFC so far behind a hard-hitting, opportunistic defense that is ranked third in the league. If Raven QB Joe Flacco ever gets on track they could be unstoppable.

New England traded its fourth round pick to Seattle to reacquire WR Deion Branch in hopes he can help fill the void created by the departure of Randy Moss. Unfortunately that does nothing to help a defense that is ranked 29th in the league.

The Ravens are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games as an underdog of three points or less, but just 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games in New England. The Patriots are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win. Baltimore comes away with a hard fought win on the road to move to 5-1 on the year.

vs.

Tennessee (-3) @ Jacksonville

Tennessee is coming off a huge 34-27 win over Dallas on the road after capitalizing on numerous Cowboy turnovers and mistakes. RB Chris Johnson’s 131 yards on 19 carries with two TD’s helped the cause as well.

Jacksonville has played almost mistake-free ball the last two weeks in wins over the Colts 31-28 and the Bills 36-26. Prior to this, Jaguars’ QB David Garrard threw five interceptions and was sacked 10 times in his first three games.

The Titans are 1-5 ATS in their last six games as a favorite and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against the AFC South. The Jaguars are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against the AFC South. Head-to-head Tennessee has won five out of the last seven games ATS. Make it six out of eight.
