Though not the highest profile ACC game this week I think this is a very interesting game with significant implications for the Atlantic Dvision. Both teams are 2-1 but have yet to grab a conference win.
Wake Forest and Boston College are two of the steadiest teams in the ACC, occasionally exceeding expectations but never sinking to Duke status. However, heading into this year the expectations were pretty low at both schools. For Boston College they lost their best player, Mark Herzlich, to cancer and their QB situation is a bit of a joke for a school that recently had their QB drafted #1 overall (Matt Ryan). Jim Grobe and Wake Forest is still trying to get back to the success they had a couple of year’s back when they went to the Orange Bowl. They lost some key defensive talent to the NFL after last season and their QB has been regressing every year it seems after some gutty performances as a freshman.
To date performances from both teams have been far from exciting. Wake lost to Baylor in their home opener, bounced back with a win against Stanford and beat up on FBC Elon. BC eased into the schedule with Northeastern and Kent State but couldn’t keep up with the playmakers against Clemson. Lucky for them Wake Forest has no players as explosive and C.J. Spiller or Jacoby Ford.
I picture this tilt to be a low scoring affair no matter who wins it. Neither group has an explosive offense and BC will certainly try and shorten the game by running the ball and letting their D do the heavy lifting. Wake Forest QB Riley Skinner will have at least one TO that will help turn the game for BC.
Score prediction:
Wake Forest 17
Currently the spread on this one is BC -1.5. I think they are a good bet to cover in a game that could easily come down to the last drive or two. Playing the Under (41.5) might be the best bet.
Things to consider/remember:
- This is Wake’s first road contest of the year. (they have lost their last two trips to BC)
