2009 Record: 9-4 Sun Belt Record: 8-0 2010 Returning Starters: 10: 5 Offense, 3 Defense, Kicker, Punter

Coach: Larry Blakeney (Troy and overall: 153-77-1, 19 years)

Offensive Coordinators: Kenny Edenfield Defensive Coordinators: Jeremy Rowell

2010 Troy Players to Watch: OB Jamie Hampton, RB DuJuan Harris, RB Shawn Southward, WR Jerrel Jernigan, OT James Brown, LB Daniel Sheffield, LB Xavier Lamb, DB Bryan Willis

2010 Troy Strengths:
Hampton has plenty of experience running Troy’s offense and should step in for the departed Levi Brown at OB. Southward and Jernigan are two of the top playmakers in the Sun Belt and can score from anywhere on the field. Sheffield, Lamb and Willis are playmakers on a young defensive unit.

2010 Troy Weaknesses:
Replacing Sun Belt Player of Year Levi Brown won’t be easy. The Trojans also must replace two Interior offensive linemen, their entire defensive line and the team’s top two tacklers. Acomplement to Jernigan must be found, as well as a capable pass rusher.

2010 Troy Offense:

Jamie Hampton, after redshirting a year ago, seems poised to retake the helm at quarterback, but redshirt freshman Corey Robinson is in the mix. Hampton and Robinson are dual-threat quarterbacks who are well suited for Troy’s spread offense. Shawn Southward and DuJuan Harris form one of the top one-two running back punches in the Sun Belt. Southward was named the conference’s Freshman of the Year after rushing for 602 yards and 12 touchdowns. The native of Florence, Ala., isn’t very big, but he’s a north-south runner with good hands. Harris, like Southward, is a solid all-around back. His 836 all-purpose yards ranked second on the team to Jerrel Jernigan’s 2,264, and his 10 rushing touchdowns also ranked second on the club. Jernigan, an All-Sun Belt first-team selection two years in a row, is a viable candidate for league Player of the Year honors after totaling 1,101 yards receiving, 266 yards rushing and 897 yards on kick returns a year ago. Tebiarus Gill, Jason Bruce, Chip Reeves and Josh Jarboe are also expected to have roles in the Trojans’ passing attack. James Brown and Kyle Wilborn are the starting tackles. Tyler Clark (center) and Tyler Graves (left guard) round out the rest of the line. The right guard position remains a question mark.

2010 Troy Defense:

The Trojans lost their top three tacklers and top three pass rushers from a season ago, so the front seven will undergo a major overhaul. Jonathan Massaquoi, whom coach Larry Blakeney said ltcan be as good as he wants to be,” could help ease the loss of All-Sun Belt performers Brandon Lang and Cameron Sheffield at defensive end. He recorded nine tackles, three sacks and an interception in the final spring scrimmage. Massaquoi and Mario Addison likely will be the starters at defensive end, while Riley Flowers and Emanuel Dudley plug the interior. Brandon Boudreaux, Antonio Harper and Tony Davis could also be in the mix up front. Daniel Sheffield, who started 12 games a year ago, returns at one outside linebacker spot. Xavier Lamb will man the middle. Blakeney speaks highly of Kanorris Davis, also a candidate to start. Sam Sellers and Mike Robinson will see time in Troy’s nickel package. Cornerback Bryan Willis, who led the team with four picks and tied for third on the team in tackles as a freshman, anchors the secondary. Willard Ross, Barry Valcin and Bryant McKissic are also projected starters. Jimmie Anderson – whom Blakeney says has great ball skills – and KeJuan Phillips will provide depth.

2010 Troy Special Teams:

Jernigan will handle the primary punt and kick return duties. Michael Taylor will handle the place-kicking duties after nailing 11 of 14 field-goal attempts. Will Goggans will be the starting punter.
