No. 6 Stanford (9-1, 6-1) at California (5-5, 3-4), FSN, 3:30 P.M. ET
This year’s Big Game between the No.6 Stanford Cardinal and the Cal Golden Bears is quite possibly the biggest between the two schools, at least for Stanford anyway, which wants to keep its hopes for a Rose Bowl appearance alive.
Cal will hope to repeat its 1982 performance in which the Golden Bears ran back a last second kickoff return for the game-winning touchdown.
If the Bears want to win this one, they will need to bring the same defense that held No. 1 Oregon to just 317 total yards, way below its average of 567.2 YPG, and a season low 15 points.
Cal is a much better team at home (4-1), so if the defense can keep them in them in the game, the offense will just need to do its job in this one. Easier said than done against a Stanford defense that ranks 27th nationally and is allowing just 20 PPG.
With QB Kevin Riley out with a season-ending knee injury, the Cardinal can stack the box keying in on Cal weapon of choice, RB Shane Vereen.
With a little Luck –as in QB Andrew — Stanford should get off to an early scoring frenzy as they have so often this season scoring 39.8 PPG, earning a much-needed road victory.
