With the PAC-10 expanding to 12 teams next season, it seems fitting that the conference is in the headlines early on this college football betting season. However, the storylines around the conference have shifted from the moves being made off the field, to the play from its teams on it. Four of the ten teams are ranked in the top-20 nationally, and surprisingly, USC isn’t one of the two teams currently in the top-ten. Number-four ranked Oregon, Number-nine ranked Stanford, number-14 Arizona, and number-18 USC are all 4-0, including 1-0 inside the conference. With the Ducks and Cardinal clashing this weekend, the spotlight has turned to a conference few predicted would excel the way they have.
The Ducks are the reigning PAC-10 champions, and perhaps the team that was most expected to excel this season. Oregon knocked off Arizona State last week in a huge road win, but will face their toughest task of the year so far when they battle with the Cardinal. The Ducks have the nation’s number-one ranked offense, but it was a stifling defense that forced seven turnovers in last weekend’s win, and will have the tough task of getting after Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck and knocking him off his game.
Luck had his worst game of the season last week at Notre Dame, throwing his first interceptions of the season. Stanford has relied on a strong play-action game to go over the top and attack opposition secondary’s, and will continue to force the issue against Oregon. This week’s sports betting game will go a long way in determining if their stellar opening is legitimate or not.
Number-14 Arizona will host Oregon State this weekend, looking to remain undefeated themselves. The Wildcats have continued the trickle down effect of high-octane passing games, ranked 12th in the nation. Arizona is 3rd in scoring defense, and will give the Beavers their first PAC-10 battle of the year. There is no reason to think that the Wildcats won’t still be undefeated after this betting online week, which should mean at least two undefeated teams still around in the PAC-10.
The wild card in this group is USC, who is ranked 18th, mainly because of off-field issues that has resulted in a soft schedule. The Trojans aren’t eligible to play in any bowl games this season, but that hasn’t kept head coach Lane Kiffin from demanding the best of his team. USC has used the flack they have taken as motivation to perform, and get Washington this week as a primer for their contest at Stanford next weekend. USC still has Oregon and Arizona over the next three weeks, which should provide some intriguing football betting outcomes.
UCLA made headlines with a massive win over Texas this past weekend, keeping PAC-10 as the hot topic for this week. That trend should continue at least in the foreseeable future as one of the best kept secrets from this offseason continues to steal the spotlight.
