While the 2010 NCAA college football season does not start for a couple of weeks it is not too early to take a look at each of the major conferences to see which teams have the best chance to end up in this year’s BCS Championship Game. Today we take a look at all the teams in the PAC 10 Conference along with their current odds to win a national title.
PAC 10 Previews
Oregon – Current odds to win a National Championship: 35-1
2009- Overall record 10-3 Conference record 8-1 Home 7-1 Away 3-2
Oregon 2010 Outlook – Oregon will most likely once again turn to Nate Costa as the starter on opening day after Jeremiah Masoli was released from the team for good. The loss of Masoli will be felt, but the Duck’s attack should still be potent enough with quite a few starters returning from last season. LB’s Casey Matthews and Bryson Littlejohn should keep the Ducks solid against the run, but their secondary will have to do a better job defending against the pass.
Oregon 2010 Season Preview – Oregon 2010 Season Schedule
Arizona - BSC Championship Odds: 100-1
2009- Overall record 8-5 Conference record 6-3 Home 5-1 Away 3-4
Arizona 2010 Outlook – On offense, Arizona is in great shape as it has 10 starters returning from a unit that averaged almost 30 points a game last year. QB Nick Foles will have all of his favorite targets back including WR’s Terrell Turner and Juron Criner as well as RB Nic Grigsby, who averaged 7.2 yards per carry. The defense lost seven starters from last year’s team which could present a problem in terms and experience and depth.

2009- Overall record 8-5 Conference record 6-3 Home 4-2 Away 4-3
Oregon State 2010 Outlook – With RB’s James and Jacquizz Rodgers, Oregon State will count on their ground game to be the driving force on offense as the two brothers combined for close to 1,800 yards on the ground last season. Ryan Katz will probably get the call at QB unless Lyle Moevao receives another year of eligibility. With a couple of solid receivers returning from last season, whoever gets the call will have plenty of targets to throw the ball to. The Beavers will have their entire front four on defense back led by Stephen Paea. There is more than enough veteran experience throughout this entire unit to make it one of the best in the conference.

Stanford - BCS Championship Odds: OFF
2009- Overall record 8-5 Conference record 6-3 Home 6-2 Away 2-3
Stanford 2010 Outlook – Third year head coach Jim Harbaugh will need to find a way to replace the production of RB Toby Gerhart, who led the team in rushing last season. With QB Andrew Luck and WR’s Ryan Whalen and Chris Owusu the passing game may end up being much more prominent in 2010. The offensive line will remain basically intact as four of the five starters from last season are back. The Cardinals return nine starters on defense led by S Delano Howell, LB Shayne Skov, and CB Richard Sherman but there is still room for improvement as they were ranked second to last in the conference last year.

USC - BCS Championship Odds: OFF
2009- Overall record 9-4 Conference record 5-4 Home 5-2 Away 4-2
USC 2010 Outlook – It is hard to know what to expect from this team this season after USC was hit with multiple sanctions including a two year bowl ban and the loss of 30 scholarships over the course of three years for previous violations involving former USC RB Reggie Bush. New head coach Lane Kiffin certainly has his work cut out for him to keep an already talent-depleted program from sinking further. QB Matt Barkley will be back to lead the offense and DT Jurrell Casey will lead the defense as overall there is still some solid supporting talent on this team. Given the Trojans situation look for them to try and play the role of spoiler this season.

California - BCS Championship Odds: 100-1
2009- Overall record 8-5 Conference record 5-4 Home 4-3 Away 4-2
California 2010 Outlook – California’s offense will be led by senior QB Kevin Riley. In 2009 he threw for 2,850 yards and 18 TD’s. WR Marvin Jones should be Riley’s number one target and will team with Jeremy Ross to provide a potent one two punch. The running game will feature RB Shane Vereen, who ran for 566 yards in four starts after Jahvid Best injured his knee. The defense will be led by LB Mike Mohamed. Mohamed should be a force this season as he is already being touted as one of the top defensive players in the country.

Washington – BCS Championship Odds: 50-1
2009- Overall record 5-7 Conference record 4-5 Home 5-2 Away 0-5
Washington 2010 Outlook – Senior QB Jake Locker returns for his senior year to try and lead the Huskies to a PAC 10 title. With WR’s Jermaine Kerse and Devin Aguilar and RB Chris Polk returning as well, this team should be extremely explosive on offense. With some major question marks on the defensive line, LB Mason Foster will be left to lead a very suspect defense that allowed 26 points per game last year and was ranked near the bottom of the conference in a number of categories.

UCLA – BCS Championship Odds: 65-1
2009- Overall record 7-6 Conference record 3-6 Home 4-2 Away 3-4
UCLA 2010 Outlook – QB Kevin Prince should be the starter for UCLA heading into the season. He is surrounded by a solid core of skill players in RB Johnathan Franklin and WR’s Nelson Rosario and Taylor Embree. The strength of the Bruins defense will be the secondary with the return of DB Rahim Moore. Moore led the country in interceptions last season with 10.

Arizona State - BCS Championship Odds: 100-1
2009- Overall record 4-8 Conference record 2-7 Home 3-4 Away 1-4
Arizona State 2010 Outlook – It looks like is going to be quarterback by committee for Arizona State as head coach Dennis Erickson has three capable players to choose from. The likely candidate for most of the reps is Steven Threet, who sat out 2009 after transferring over from Michigan. RB Cameron Marshall will be the primary ball carrier and WR Kerry Taylor should be the primary receiver. With a wealth of experience in all areas returning from last year, the Sun Devils defensive appears to be the strength of this team.

Washington State – BCS Championship Odds: OFF
2009- Overall record 1-11 Conference record 0-9 Home 1-5 Away 0-6
Washington State 2010 Outlook – The good news is that Washington State has 17 starters returning from last year’s team; the bad news is that these are the same players that only managed to win one game in 2009. Right now it appears as if Jeff Tuel and Marshall Lobbestael will split time at QB until one emerges as the favored starter. Defensive lineman Travis Long will be back and is easily the best player on this side of the ball. He is the lone bright spot returning from a unit that was gashed for an average of 38.5 points per game last year.
