Colorado Buffaloes (3-7) at Oklahoma State Cowboys (8-2), Thursday at 7:45 PM
The Colorado Buffaloes are looking for a big win to justify keeping their coach while the Oklahoma State Cowboys seek another win to keep them in the running for a spot in the BCS. It is extremely unlikely but Oklahoma State can still hold out hope for a division championship if Texas stumbles down the stretch. Funnily enough Colorado can too even though they enter the game 2 below .500 in the conference. The Big 12 North is a big mess with Kansas State in the drivers seat and they aren’t even bowl eligible yet.
To be clear, there is no expectation that Colorado will win this game. They have not been closer than a TD in any road game this year and none were against this calibre of opponent. This team does nothing particularly well other than disappoint. They are ranked no higher than 59 in the nation in any major statistical category and have a roster of underperforming players at every position. When coach Dan Hawkins was at Boise State he was perceived as a program builder. That may not have been true then and is certainly not true now.
Others might not see it this way but I think Oklahoma State is having a very good season. Sure they have a couple of losses but they were against good competition. Further, it would have been easy to collapse with some of the injuries they have had and the whole Dez Bryant situation. Nobody leaps to the very top quickly, this year is proving that they are a team that can be consistently good. If they beat OU during the Bedlam game that will be a huge boost. Back to this game…Oklahoma State should be able to win due to superior QB play and overall firepower. They can make Colorado one dimensional with their rush defense and let Parrish Cox loose in the secondary to make some plays. Should win by double digits and the -18 at current is within reach.
Game Prediction: Not exactly the best Thursday night game of the year but Oklahoma State can be fun to watch. This is their last tune up before Bedlam so I expect them to use it to sharpen all facets. Look for them to gash Colorado in the run game and get Zac Robinson back on track after a poor outing last week against Texas Tech. This one should be over by halftime.
Score Prediction
Oklahoma State – 42
Colorado – 16
