2009 Record: 3-9 Sun Belt Record: 3-5 2010 Returning Starters: 9: 6 Offense, 3 Defense,
Coach: Marlo Cristobal (Florida International and overall: 9-27, 3 years)
Offensive Coordinators: Scott Satterfield Defensive Coordinators: Geoff Collins
2010 Florida International Players to Watch: QB Wesley Carroll, WR T.Y. Hilton, WR Wayne Times, RB Jeremiah Harden, LB Toronto Smith, CB Anthony Galtor. S Ashlyn Parker, S Jonathan Cyprlen
2010 Florida International Strengths:
The Panthers are deep at wide receiver. Hilton and Times have game-breaking potential, and Greg Ellingson and Jason Frierson are sure-handed pass catchers. Smith came on strong at linebacker last season. and Gaitor and Parker are all-conference candidates.
2010 Florida International Weaknesses:
The offensive line lacks depth and is riddled with questions, which is particularly critical with the Panthers breaking in a new starting quarterback. There are also issues up front on defense, which was particularly vulnerable to the run a year ago.
2010 Florida International Offense:
The Panthers addressed their inconsistent ground game with the addition of Syracuse transfer running back Jerimiah Harden. He nnished the spring ahead of junior Darriet Perry, who had nve starts last year. Junior Wesley Carroll, a transfer from Mississippi State, looks to take over for departed Paul McCall at quarterback, but senior Wayne Younger, a starter as a freshman in 2007, challenged in the spring. The position is open going into fall camp. Wide receiver and tight end are the unit’s strengths. Junior T.Y. Hilton fought off a knee injury to make 57 catches last year, and he has 98 receptions in two seasons. Greg Ellingson and Jason Frierson are reliable receivers, and sophomore Wayne Times is a speedster in the same mold as Hilton. Tight end is solid with juniors Colt Anderson and Jonathan Faucher coming off impressive springs. Dudley LaPorte should be ready. He made a belated debut last season after transferring from junior college, then was hurt in his only game. The big question is up front. Senior center Brad Serini is a three-year starter and others have starting experience, but depth is lacking in the interior line. FlU is dealing with the emotional aftermath of the spring stabbing death of running back Kendall Berry.
2010 Florida International Defense:
The Panthers, who ranked 116th out of 120 FBS teams in rushing defense last season, should improve under new coordinator Geoff Collins. Sophomore end Tourek Williams finished last year on a high note, and there is competition at tackle, where sophomore Andrew Mattox leads the candidates. The linebacker position looks deeper, even after the departure of Scott Bryant, FlU’s all-time leading tackler. Junior Aaron Davis had a strong nnish to his sophomore year, and senior Toronto Smith is a returning starter who tied for the team lead in sacks (3.5). Sophomore Pooh Bear Mars also had a solid spring. If safety Ashlyn Parker can avoid the injuries that have wrecked his past two seasons, the secondary could be the strength of the defense. Senior Anthony Gaitor is an all-conference corner, and safety Jonathan Cyprien earned honorable mention recognition as a freshman in 2009. Cornerback Dez Johnson started four games before going out with a back injury.
2010 Florida International Special Teams:
FlU will be looking for two new kickers, with incoming freshman Josh Brisk looking to handle the punting and Jack Griffin the place-kicking. The return game is among the Sun Belt’s best with T.Y. Hilton and Wayne Times both big-play threats.

2010 Florida International Predictions:
FlU, which is still looking for its nrst winning season since initiating the program in the 2002 season, isn’t likely to break through in 2010. But the Panthers aren’t the same team who won only one game over the 2006 and 2007 seasons combined, and they could make some noise in the Sun Belt if they can survive their early schedule.
