2009 Record: 8-5 Big East Record: 3-4 2010 Returning Starters: 17: 8 Offense, 8 Defense, Kicker,
Coach: Randy Edsall (Connecticut and overall: 65-65, 11 years)
Offensive Coordinators: Joe Moorhead Defensive Coordinators: Todd Orlando
2010 Connecticut Players to Watch: QB Zach Frazer, RB Jordan Todman, WR Kashif Moore, OG Zach Hurd, DE Greg Lloyd, LB Scott Lutrus, LB Lawrence Wilson
2010 Connecticut Strengths:
With arising star at running back In Todman, four starters back on the offensive line and eight on defense, the Huskies resemble aclassic, cold-weather Northeast team. They can run the ball, and their defense will keep them in games. Wilson and Lutrus, if he can stay healthy, are as active as any two linebackers in the country.
2010 Connecticut Weaknesses:
There’s some uncertainty at wide receiver and the nagging absence of a game-breaking threat to keep defenses honest. Todman will have to be aworkhorse; there’s really no proven tailback help.
2010 Connecticut Offense:
Quarterback Zach Frazer’s strong finish last season (eight touchdown passes to two interceptions in the last five games) – and his dazzling performance in the spring game – have the typically run-oriented Huskies convinced they will be more balanced. Frazer showed he deserves the job over junior Cody Endres, who threw for 1,354 yards in six starts. Frazer, a senior, has even bulked up for the long haul, adding 13 pounds for spring practice. But the running game will continue to be UConn’s staple on offense – and it should be. Junior tailback Jordan Todman only scratched the surface of his potential after rushing for 1,188 yards and 14 touchdowns a season ago. With four offensive line starters returning, including first-team All-Big East guard Zach Hurd and experienced center Moe Petrus, Todman should put up even bigger numbers. Big-play threats at wide receiver are lacking, but there’s experience there with Isiah Moore (24 catches last year) and Kashif Moore (22 receptions). Sophomore Ryan Griffin (23 catches for 227 yards) has the makings of a good tight end.
2010 Connecticut Defense:
Defensive coordinator Todd Orlando turned to linebacker Greg Lloyd, the team’s second-leading tackler last season, to fill the void at defensive end created by the loss of sack specialist Lindsey Witten. Beyond that, there are few questions on defense with eight returning starters, though the Huskies – who have built a reputation for being tough defensively – are looking to improve after ranking just 62nd nationally a year ago. Lloyd joins a front four that returns three other starters, with tackle Twyon Martin responsible for 8.5 tackles for losses in 2009. Even with Lloyd’s shift, linebacker will be a strength. Outside linebacker Lawrence Wilson earned first-team all-league honors after recording a Big East-leading 140 tackles, including 11 for loss. Senior Scott Lutrus, entering his fourth year as a starter, shifted to the middle, which appears to be a better fit for his skill set. Limited to eight games because of injuries last year, Lutrus can be counted on for lOa-plus tackles if healthy. The secondary needs to re-Ioad a little, but it returns two players who started as freshmen last year – cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson and safety Jerome Junior.
2010 Connecticut Special Teams:
UConn returns Dave Teggart, who won the South Florida game with a 42-yard field goal as time expired, but the punting job will be an ongoing competition. Robbie Frey, who will log time at tailback, averaged 29.5 yards on kickoff returns and had a loa-yard score.

2010 Connecticut Predictions:
The Huskies overcame the fatal stabbing of cornerback Jasper Howard last season to earn a third straight bowl bid. If Frazer’s play is solid and the defense plays to its experience and potential, UConn could be a sneaky-good team that competes for the Big East title.
