With the 2010 NCAA college football season starting in just a few weeks it is time to take a look at which teams have the best chance to end up winning their conference and which teams are in for another long season. Today we take a look at all the teams in the Conference USA. Since there are no individual BCS odds to win a national title posted for any of these teams except Houston, they would all fall into the category of ‘the field` at plus 1500.
Conference USA East Division
East Carolina Pirates – Current odds to win a National Championship: +1500
2009- Overall record 9-5 Conference record 7-1 Home 6-2 Away 3-3
East Carolina 2010 Outlook – East Carolina is looking to reinvent itself on offense this season as new Head Coach Ruffin McNeil brings the Texas Tech scheme with him. WR Dwayne Harris, who led the team with 83 receptions for 978 yards, is back but there will be new faces in most of the other skill positions. It will be the same situation on defense as only two starters return from last year. Given all changes, it will be a stretch for the Pirates to repeat as conference champions in 2010.

UCF Golden Knights - BSC Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 8-5 Conference record 6-2 Home 6-1 Away 2-4
UCF 2010 Outlook – UCF returns eight starters on offense led by tailback Brynn Harvey. Last season Harvey ran for 1,109 yards and scored 14 TD’s. Also back are WR’s Kamar Aiken and A.J. Guyton. These two combined for close to 1,200 receiving yards and 10 TD’s. With a solid defense that returns several key players from 2009, the Golden Knights should be one of the top teams in the conference.

Southern Miss Golden Eagles - BCS Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 7-6 Conference record 5-3 Home 6-0 Away 1-6
Southern Miss 2010 Outlook – There are only three starters returning from last season, but the good news is that Southern Miss does have QB Austin Davis and WR DeAndre Brown back for 2010. Another player to watch is WR Quentin Piece as he seems poised for a big season as well. The defense should be much more stable as nine starters return from 2009.

Marshall Thundering Herd - BCS Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 7-6 Conference record 4-4 Home 4-2 Away 3-4
Marshall 2010 Outlook – Last season’s starting quarterback Brian Anderson is back but do not be surprised if Clemson transfer Willy Korn is behind center at some point this season. Whoever is throwing the ball you can bet that WR Antavious Wilson will be the primary target. Marshall’s run defense should solid but its secondary is definitely suspect.

UAB Blazers - BCS Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 5-7 Conference record 4-4 Home 3-2 Away 2-5
UAB 2010 Outlook – With QB Joe Webb gone, UAB is faced with the problem of replacing a huge portion of its offensive production from last season. David Isabelle is expected to get the nod, but he is not nearly as versatile as Webb. The defense returns nine starters and will be counted on to keep the Blazers in the game while their offense tries to come together.

Memphis Tigers - BCS Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 2-10 Conference record 1-7 Home 2-4 Away 0-6
Memphis 2010 Outlook – QB Cannon Smith should be the starter this season but Memphis also has Tyler Bass if Smith gets off to a bad start. The good news is the entire offensive line returns from last season which should set up tailback Lance Smith for a big year. The biggest challenge will be to improve a defense that gave up an average of 35 points a game last year.

Conference USA West Division
Houston Cougars – BCS Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 10-4 Conference record 6-2 Home 6-0 Away 4-4
Houston 2010 Outlook – Houston actually has BCS odds at 150/1 to win a title based on its success over the past few seasons. It also could be due to the fact that Heisman Trophy candidate QB Chase Keenum is back. Last season he threw for 5,671 yards and 44 TD’s and is poised to repeat this feat again in 2010 as his top four receivers return as well. The Cougars should be able to ride this high powered offense all the way to a C-USA title in 2010.

Southern Methodist Mustangs – BCS Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 8-5 Conference record 6-2 Home 6-1 Away 2-4
Southern Methodist 2010 Outlook – QB Kyle Padron played well enough in six starts last season to earn the starting spot again in 2010. Behind a very good offensive line, he should have plenty of time to throw the ball downfield to a trio of receivers that each had over 40 receptions last season. With one of the better defenses in the West, the Mustangs should once again be right up there as one of the top teams in the conference.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane - BCS Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 5-7 Conference record 3-5 Home 2-4 Away 3-3
Tulsa 2010 Outlook – Tulsa will count on QB G.J. Kinne for much of its offensive productive this season. In 2009 he threw for 2,732 yards and was the team’s leading rusher with 393 yards. He will also have WR Damaris Johnson and Jameel Owens to help his cause. With a decent defense, the Golden Hurricanes have a good chance to turn in a .500 season this year.

UTEP Miners – BCS Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 4-8 Conference record 3-5 Home 3-3 Away 1-5
UTEP 2010 Outlook – RB Donald Buckram will be the feature player in UTEP’s offense. In 2009 he ran for 1,594 yards and caught 30 balls for 453 yards which accounted for most of Miners offensive production. The defense is still a major liability and will most likely keep them from winning more than four or five games this year.

Rice Owls - BCS Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 2-10 Conference record 2-6 Home 2-4 Away 0-6
Rice 2010 Outlook – Rice returns its entire offensive line last year and has Michigan transfer RB Sam McGuffie which should give the Owls one of the better rushing attacks in the conference. Other than that there are just too many holes in their passing game and defense to make them competitive in the conference.

Tulane Green Wave – BCS Championship Odds: +1500
2009- Overall record 3-9 Conference record 1-7 Home 2-4 Away 1-5
Tulane 2010 Outlook – Tulane has only managed to average 16 points a game over the past two seasons and the prospect for any kind of dramatic improvement in 2010 does not look promising. The defense has been just as bad, giving up an average of well over 30 points a game the past few seasons. It looks like another long year for the Green Wave.
