Lots of conferences are winding down but the Big Ten still has a lot to decide over the next few weeks. This week’s big game is between Iowa and Ohio State which could narrow the field of potential Rose Bowl candidates. The Buckeyes have the most difficult remaining schedule with Iowa standing in their way on Saturday. I think an upset is a real possibility but must admit that has more to do with the fact that every time I see OSU I am unimpressed. The other game of real consequence is in Ann Arbour where Wisconsin needs to emerge unscathed to keep their BCS hopes alive. Two weeks ago I would have thought the Wolverines could pull the upset but Wisconsin said a lot with their demolition of Indiana last week. Lastly, I want to go on record that I am sad for Dan Persa and the Northwestern Wildcats. Their performance last week was what college sports is all about but now with Persa out indefinitely their season is like to end on a down note. Go Get Em Cats!

Penn State @ Indiana – 12:00 PM ET
I am still in shock as to how badly the Hoosiers were beaten by Wisconsin. Usually when you see a score like that it is week one and the losing team is a directional school. Indiana is not a very good team but you have to think that after getting humiliated like that they would respond, especially at home. Penn State has just owned this series. They have never lost to Indiana and the average margin of victory has been 17 points. I think it will be a little bit closer this time.
Prediction: Penn State 34 – Indiana 24 – Bet Now
Odds: Penn State: -10 – Indiana: +10 – Over/Under: 56.5

Purdue @ #12 Michigan State – 12:00 PM ET
Michigan State just needs to keep their eyes on the prize and hope for a little luck. They have the easiest end to the schedule of the conference contenders and could wind up in the Rose Bowl if everything goes their way. Of course that is all predicated on not blowing themselves up by doing something like losing to Purdue. The Boilermakers are extremely shorthanded right now while MSU is coming off their bye. Even if they are little sluggish to start the game they should eventually dominate.
Prediction: Purdue 7 – Michigan State 30 – Bet Now
Odds: Purdue: +20 – Michigan State : -20 – Over/Under: 48

#7 Wisconsin @ Michigan – 12:00 PM ET on ESPN
The Badgers don’t usually draw a lot of attention to themselves but when you score 83 points in a game people are bound to notice. Especially when you do it without the help of your top offensive weapon, RB John Clay, who is questionable this weekend. Many thought Wisconsin was due for a few more losses after losing to the Spartans but since then they have been perfect and are firmly in the Rose Bowl conversation heading into Saturday. Winning at the Big House may be easier now than it has been in some time but it is still no gimme, especially the way the Wolverines can put points on the board. The Badgers may not need 83 points on Saturday but half that amount is probably what it is going to take to continue their winning ways against Denard Robinson and crew.
Prediction: Wisconsin 45 – Michigan 38 – Bet Now
Odds: Wisconsin: -4.5 – Michigan: +4.5 – Over/Under: 67

Illinois @ Northwestern – 3:30 PM ET on ESPNU
It is a real shame that Wildcats QB Dan Persa got hurt at the end of their upset win against Iowa. I watched the 4Q of that game from a restaurant and couldn’t take my eyes off the screen, much to the chagrin of my family. It was fantastic watching Persa use his athleticism to guide NW to victory over the Hawkeyes and a shame we may not see him again until next fall. Which is going to make beating an improved Illinois team that much tougher. I think NW can do it as with Persa out they will need to rally around backup QB Evan Watkins. With Persa out the story of the week changed and as well as the expectations that came with it. But Illinois isn’t going to just give the game to NW. They would love to make it to a bowl this season and have only two more shots to get a 6th victory. This is an under the radar rivalry between schools that are pretty close to each other. NW has dominated of late winning 6 of the last seven.
Prediction: Illinois 20 – Northwestern 21 – Bet Now
Odds: Illinois : -7.5 – Northwestern: +7.5 – Over/Under: 49.5

#9 Ohio State @ #20 Iowa – 3:30 PM ET on ABC
Definitely Game of the Week here. Iowa is entering the contest off a heartbreaking loss to Northwestern which has taken all meaning out of their season…except to ruin the season of another conference mate like the Buckeyes. Last year OSU won by a FG in overtime against Iowa at the Horseshoe. That game was as tight as it sounds with both defenses flexing their muscle. That is likely to be the case again this year as these offenses just refuse to open up, especially Iowa who is taking a lot of criticism after last week. Kirk Ferentz is considered one of the better coaches in the country and this game will be a real test. The Hawkeyes have had it circled all year long but losses to other teams have diminished its importance. Can he keep the preparation and motivation high enough to beat a team they haven’t beaten since 2004. Iowa is the home underdog so it seems the world is counting them out. Should you?
Prediction: Ohio State 24 – Iowa 28 – Bet Now
Odds: Ohio State: -3 – Iowa: +3 – Over/Under: 48
