For your main course, you get No. 1 Oklahoma at No. 5 Florida State on Saturday night on ABC in perhaps the marquee game in the first month of college football. The appetizers aren’t bad, either, with No. 24 Texas and the Longhorns’ new, two-QB system traveling to play UCLA earlier in the day on ABC. On Friday, Iowa State travels to Connecticut, which will be on ESPN2. Hey, the Cyclones aren’t bad, and we called the upset of in-state rival Iowa last week. The Big 12, for all the knocks it has taken in conference realignment talk, still puts a darn good product on the field. Listed pointspreads are provided by BetOnline.com.

vs.

Iowa State @ Connecticut – 8:00 PM ET on ESPN2

Coach Paul Rhoads and his Cyclones don’t back down from anybody, and they’re one of the feel-good stories from the beginning of the season following last week’s exuberant, triple-OT win over Iowa. The Huskies are rudderless with coach Randy Edsall having bolted to Maryland and aren’t ready for what’s headed their way.

Prediction: Iowa State 28, Connecticut 7 – Bet Now

Odds: Iowa State: +4 – Connecticut: -4 Over/Under: 44

vs.

Kansas vs. Georgia Tech – 12:30 PM ET on ESPN3.com

Jayhawks won a thriller over MAC favorite Northern Illinois last Saturday in Lawrence, giving Kansas and coach Turner Gill one more win than most predicted them to have and showing they could score points when they have to in the 45-42 victory. Jayhawks defeated Georgia Tech last year in an early-season and won’t do it again here, but they’re not bad enough to not cover a two-touchdown spread.

Prediction: Georgia Tech 35, Kansas 24 – Bet Now

Odds: Georgia Tech: -15 – Kansas: +15 Over/Under: 61

vs.

Texas Tech @ New Mexico – 3:30 PM ET

Mike Leach might be gone, but the gun-slinging quarterbacks aren’t with Seth Doege looking like he’ll be a keeper for Texas Tech. Also, Tommy Tuberville knows how to coach defense a little bit. New Mexico is not very good either, if that matters.

Prediction: Texas Tech 35, New Mexico 0 – Bet Now

Odds: Texas Tech: -21 – New Mexico: +21 Over/Under: 56

vs.

#24 Texas @ UCLA – 3:30 PM on ABC

Mack Brown pulled starter/blue chip/golden-haired boy Garrett Gilbert in last week’s win over BYU after a disastrous season-plus as Texas’ quarterback in which he threw 23 interceptions. Now, with the reins handed over to Case McCoy and John Ash, expect the Longhorns to start rolling. Not having stability at the position killed them, and even if they’re playing two guys, at least they know what they’ll do. UCLA is tough, but you know what happens when Texas gets out to Cali.

Prediction: Texas 24, UCLA 17 – Bet Now

Odds: Texas: -3.5 – UCLA: +3.5 Over/Under: 56

vs.

Western Illinois @ Missouri – 7:00 PM ET

Tough, tough loss for the Tigers out in the desert to Arizona State last week. Quarterback James Franklin seems like he could be pretty good but needs a couple more games like these (i.e. against patsies) in order to develop a little more. Expect Franklin and Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel to work out the kinks here.

Prediction: Missouri 49, Western Illinois 3 – Bet Now

vs.

Kent State @ Kansas State – 7:00 PM ET

Kansas State eking out a 10-7 win over Eastern Kentucky in its opener was a little deceptive, as longtime coach Bill Snyder let the Wildcats play with about 15 percent of their playbook. He got a little scare put into him and will try to roll out the whole thing against the visiting Golden Flashes, who have a decent defense but no offense to speak of. Wildcats immensely improved on the defensive side of the ball means…

Prediction: Kansas State 35, Kent State 10 – Bet Now

Odds: Kansas State: -17.5 – Kent State: +17.5 Over/Under: 46.5

vs.

Stephen F. Austin @ #19 Baylor – 7:00 PM ET

Please, somebody, get the Robert Griffin III show back on TV! Baylor’s quarterback is an exciting player, but he’ll likely see about one half of action in this one. Bears are media darlings after opening the college football season with an upset of TCU. Blowout City here, keep it moving.

Prediction: Baylor 52, Stephen F. Austin 6 – Bet Now

vs.

Idaho @ #9 Texas A&M – 7:00 PM ET

Aggies have 16 returning lettermen and 18 returning starters, including 10 on defense. This is the last chump before a four-game stretch of Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Texas Tech and Baylor that will determine if they’re contenders in their last season in the Big 12 or if they’re what they’ve been for so long in the league … pretenders. Until then, in the immortal words of Ronnie from “Jersey Shore” … “COME AT ME, BRO!”

Prediction: Texas A&M 42, Idaho 7 – Bet Now

Odds: Texas A&M: -35.5 – Idaho: +35.5 Over/Under: 57.5

vs.

#1 Oklahoma @ #5 Florida State – 8:00 PM ET on ABC

What a great game. Tallahassee hasn’t seen national-title hype in almost a decade and they’ve got it in spades this season, but get stomped here and it’s back to the end of the Bowden era. Seminoles want to win, but in all likelihood keeping it competitive will be just as much of a victory. Sooners are road-tested and get their top defensive player back in linebacker Travis Lewis. BOOMER!

Prediction: Oklahoma 28, Florida State 27 – Bet Now

Odds: Oklahoma: -3 – Florida State: +3 Over/Under: 55

vs.

#8 Oklahoma State @ Tulsa – 10:00 PM ET

Cowboys don’t mess around on offense, where they can throw, catch and run with anybody in the country. Being favored by only 14 here just means that the oddsmakers are giving just a little too much credence to the in-state rivalry aspect of this game. Brandon Weeden and Co. are fixing to squash the Golden Hurricane.

Prediction: Oklahoma State 45, Tulsa 10 – Bet Now

Odds: Oklahoma State: -13.5 – Tulsa: +13.5 Over/Under: 69
