2009 Record: 14-0 SEC Record: 8-0 (SEC/BCS Champs) 2010 Returning Starters: 10: 8 Offense, 2 Defense
Coach: Nick Saban (Alabama: 33-8, 3 years)
Offensive Coordinators: Jim McElwain Defensive Coordinators: Kirby Smart
2010 Alabama Players to Watch: QB Greg McElroy, RB Mark Ingram, RB Trent Richardson, WR Julio Jones, C William Vlachos, SS Mark Barron, LB Dont’a Hightower, DE Marcell Dareus
2010 Alabama Strengths:
Offense should be no problem with Ingram back to spark the ground game and Richardson ready to make his mark. McElroy still has not lost agame he has started and still has the same wideouts to throw to while setting up behind an experienced line.
2010 Alabama Weaknesses:
Defense is acomplete mystery with only two starters back from the dominating unit that was the backbone of the national championship season. Alabama needs to Identify playmakers in ahurry, and while Hightower looks completely recovered from the Injury that cost him 10 games last year, he has big shoes to flll for the departed Rolando McClain.
2010 Alabama Offense:
Alabama’s offense is loaded. Eight starters return to a unit that was the 12th best rushing team in the nation. This year, it should be even better. Returning are running backs Mark Ingram, who rushed for 1,658 yards and 17 touchdowns on the way to becoming Alabama’s first Heisman Trophy winner, and Trent Richardson, who rushed for 751 yards and scored eight touchdowns as a backup. The pair also combined to catch 48 passes for 460 yards and three scores. Offensive coordinator Jim McElwain would like to throw to the running backs more this fall and give them room to operate in space. The line will be anchored by center William Vlachos, left tackle James Carpenter and right guard Barrett Jones, who each started all 14 games last season. Redshirt freshman D.J. Fluker is a massive presence at right tackle, and sophomore Chance Warmack looks to move into the left guard spot vacated by Mike Johnson. McElroy, who completed 198 of 325 passes for 2,508 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2009, will be looking to keep his perfect record as a starter intact. The wideouts are in good hands with Julio Jones, Marquis Maze and Darius Hanks. They had a combined 91 receptions for 1,391 yards and nine touchdowns last season.
2010 Alabama Defense:
Alabama’s defense was second in the country in total defense, but nine starters either graduated or moved on to the NFL. Only strong safety Mark Barron and linebacker Dont’a Hightower return as starters, and Hightower only started four games before going down with a devastating knee injury. But the Crimson Tide could be almost as good as last season. Terrence Cody is gone in the middle, but tackles Josh Chapman and Luther Davis bring plenty of experience to the fIeld. The defensive ends look strong. Marcell Dareus (the hero of the national championship game) and Courtney Upshaw played in every game last season. Hightower is healthy and will assume the role that NFL fIrst-rounder Rolando McClain had in calling the defense. Barron, a junior, led the SEC with seven interceptions and will be the anchor in the secondary.
2010 Alabama Special Teams:
Four-year starters Leigh Tiffin and P.J. Fitzgerald are gone, and two early enrollees from the 2010 signing class could fIll their roles. Cade Foster has a strong leg; he likely will kick fIeld goals and be the kickoff specialist. Jay Williams looks to take over the punting duties. Julio Jones is the only player who had any punt return yardage last season. Trent Richardson and Jones are the top two returning kick returners.

2010 Alabama Predictions:
The Crimson Tide is locked and loaded on offense with eight starters returning, but can the defense come around and be strong enough to lead Alabama back to a championship, either SEC or national? It’s not like there isn’t enough talent, but guys who played a lot last year will have to shoulder the load. They likely can get it done.
