In the day following the initial release of the Bowl Championship Series rankings, the storylines are endless heading in to college football betting week eight, with a couple of key match ups taking the national spotlight. Many were surprised that the BCS had both Oklahoma and Oregon ahead of Boise State, and although the seeding represents not only the quality of the team, but the quality of the opponents they have faced, there will be room for teams to move around at the top.
The Sooners open their defense of the top spot in the country with their toughest game of the season, battling number-11 Missouri on the road this Saturday night. Both teams are undefeated heading in to this week, and although Oklahoma has won seven straight over the Tigers, the potential for an upset is very much present in this Big 12 betting showdown. The other spot in the BCS national title game currently belongs to number-two Oregon, who is also in action this weekend. The Ducks are number-one in the polls for the first time in school history, and will take their top-ranked offense west to battle UCLA on the road. Oregon has won seven of its last nine games against the Bruins, and will look to continue to earn respect for the PAC-10 with another big win.
Another PAC-10 team to look forward to this weekend will be number-12 Stanford, which will be on the road as well for a clash with Washington State. The Cardinal boast one of the best NFL betting projects in the country at quarterback in Andrew Luck, who should have his full skill set on display for the nation to see when he take’s on the league’s worst pass defense. The Cougars have lost 13 straight games dating back to last season, a streak that was started by Stanford. With the PAC-10 getting more representation in the national spotlight, it is the SEC that is losing the most ground, particularly after the defending national champion Crimson Tide were knocked out of top spot in the country two weeks ago. Alabama will look to continue to rebound this football betting weekend on the road against Tennessee, the conferences only winless team this year. The Crimson Tide barely survived a close win against the Volunteers last year in a victory that helped them get to the national championship game, but this one should be nowhere near as close. The biggest SEC clash of the week will feature number-four Auburn on the road against number-six LSU, in a match up of unbeaten teams. Auburn’s ninth-ranked offense will go against LSU’s third-ranked defense in a battle of Tigers’ teams. Ohio State went from first to feeling last the weekend when the BCS standings were announced, and will look to prove they got it wrong when they travel to take on Purdue. The Buckeyes lost to number-18 Wisconsin 31-18 last week, and will look to avoid suffering back-to-back losses for the first time in six seasons.
