2010-2011 Wake Forest Season Preview
Jeff Bzdelik came to Wake Forest in a battling mood. He knows what outsiders are saying – or yawning – about his hiring. He knows what they’re saying – or yawning – about his style of play. And he knows what they’re saying – or yawning – about Wake Forest’s competitive chances after losing its best four players to graduation or the NBA.

Wake Forest Backcourt
The Deacons have two choices at the point, neither of them all that great. C.J. Harris is a fine shooting guard, but as the lead guard … he’s a fine shooting guard. He had more turnovers than assists last season. Enough said. The other choice is feisty but unsung freshman Tony Chennault, who’ll likely win the job by default. The Deacons have just two other guards on the roster, and they’re basically the same guy: a 6-4, one-dimensional shooter. His name is Gary Clark. His other name is J.T. Terrell. Different name, same guy. And not a point guard.
Wake Forest Frontcourt
The Deacons are deep here, if unproven, featuring three slender giants (Tony Woods, Carson Desrosiers, Ty Walker), two sweetshooting small forwards (Ari Stewart, Travis McKie) and two tough, undersized power forwards (Melvin Tabb, Nikita Mescheriakov). All three big men have more going for them than size. Desrosiers can really shoot it, while Woods and Walker can run and jump. Together, Bzdelik says, their defensive presence inside will allow the Deacons to guard aggressively on the perimeter.
2010-2011 Wake Forest Predictions
If ever a team needed some easy baskets, it’s this one. Bzdelik was a promising hire – won huge at Air Force, and he was turning around a Colorado disaster that had been decades in the making – but the Deacons’ cupboard is bare. Especially compared to the giants an hour to the east, Duke and UNC. This will be a long season. Everyone says so. Bzdelik suggests his players have heard it, and they seem a little bit like him – they’re irritated, and itching for a fight.
