The Longhorns have fared well historically against the Red Raiders, and out rebounded them last season in a 71-67 win in Lubbock. The Longhorns came up with 18 offensive rebounds and held a 44-30 edge overall.
Texas lost their last game 82-81 in overtime to Connecticut but fought all the way to the end with Kemba Walker nailing a 15 foot 3-pointer with five seconds on the clock to sink the Longhorns.

Walker rolled over the Texas defense, finishing with 22 points, which was a bit below his season average coming in (26.1), as Texas was unable to hold a five-point half time lead. Despite the loss, five Texas players reached double-digit points, including Jordan Hamilton and J’Covan Brown who scored 20 apiece. Hamilton also led the team in rebounds with 11.
The loss ended the Longhorns 27-game win streak against non-conference teams, and dropped their record this season to 12-3 (9-1 at home). Before the Connecticut loss, Texas had won six straight outscoring their opponents 490-365. For the season the Longhorns have averaged 78.5 a game to rank 30th; that offense has averaged 42.9 rebounds per game (2nd) and 14.5 assists (90th) while hitting 44 percent of their field goals (124th). Hamilton is the main force on offense with 19.6 ppg and a 42 3-point percentage. Tristan Thompson has grabbed 7.9 rebounds and Gary Johnson has 7.3.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech lost to the Baylor Bears back on January 8. They stayed within striking distance through the first 20 minutes, but it all fell apart in the second losing, 71-59. Baylor ran off a 20-2 stretch to where the Red Raiders failed to score for four minutes. Perry Jones and LaceDarius Dunn led the way with 20 points apiece for Baylor; Dunn scored seven during that run. Jones finished with six rebounds as well.
The loss dropped the Red Raiders to 8-8, 6th in the Big 12. The offense has managed 75.3 ppg (68th), 14.6 assists (84th), and 33.9 rebounds (246th). From the field they have hit 45 percent (95th).
Then Red Raiders have yet to string together a win streak longer than two games, but to their credit haven’t lost more than two in a row either. Overall they keep the game tight, but have broke the century mark in scoring only once this season, as have opponents, when they lost 108-79 to Washington. In five of their wins, they scored in the 70-point range, in four losses opponents scored 81 or less. Mike Singletary leads the team in scoring with 13.7 ppg and 5.8 rebounds. John Roberson leads the team with 4.2 assists per game.
The odds makers have the Texas Longhorns as a -8 point favorite with an over/under of 148.
Free Pick: Texas 73, Texas Tech 69-The Red Raiders lack the offensive thunder that the Longhorns bring to the game. Texas continually shows the ability to pace their games setting the tempo by using its ability to grab rebounds, and has played very tough opponents all year right down to the wire. Two losses have been by two points or less. Look for the Longhorns bounce back by grabbing a win in Lubbock tonight.
