Tennessee Volunteers vs San Diego State Aztecs Preview & Prediction
Tennessee has beat tough teams then turned around to get blown out. The problem is a lack of scoring, ranking near the bottom in offensive stats. Hopson is the scoring leader and is finally becoming aggressive and pushing inside rather than shoot long range. Maze is a plus defender when focused. The team tends to mirror Prince and his emotionally play. If he is going well so is the team. The Volunteers are a collection of role players who do one thing well. The veterans need to pull everyone into the game for a chance of making magic.
San Diego is a team of questions, injuries, transfers and freshmen. To top it off they are terrible shooting or stopping the three. The good news is they don’t rely heavily on one player- if one goes cold it’s not a major hit to the offense. Gay is the key veteran the Aztecs will look to for leadership. Leonard and Thomas are the double threats. It’s a strong team on the boards.
The odds makers have the Volunteers as -3-point favorites.
San Diego has proven they can win the big games getting by New Mexico and UNLV to claim the MWC title, but I expect the run to end as they lose to the Vols by four.
