2010-2011 Temple Season Preview
The Owls have won three consecutive A-10 titles and things could get even sweeter on North Broad Street. Despite losing steady point guard Luis Guzman and all-conference guard Ryan Brooks, Temple is on the cusp of doing what Owl fans most wanted when Fran Dunphy took over for the legendary John Chaney. Namely, the expectation is that the Owls should be nationally relevant every year as they were for nearly three decades from the 1980s through the early 2000s. Those teams played in 15 NCAA Tourneys in 16 years and were first-round ousters only four times. Last years NCAA appearance was the third straight for the Owls, but the first without a double-digit seed, so now the goal seems pretty simple: start winning again in the Big Dance. That monster schedule includes defending NCAA champion Duke and eight other NCAA Tourney teams: California, Georgetown, Maryland, Notre Dame, Ohio, Texas A&M, Villanova and Wisconsin.

Temple Backcourt
Junior point guard Juan Fernandez is one of the best floor generals in college basketball and was named the A-10 Tournament Most Outstanding Player for his brilliant performance in the conference championship game. He averaged 12.6 points a game and led the Owls in assists with 122. Temple should have a magnificent backcourt with Fernandez and junior Ramone Moore. The 6-4 guard was the A-10 Sixth Man of the Year but figures now to move into a starting role. He averaged 7.6 points per game as a reserve last season, 16.8 per game as a starter.
Temple Frontcourt
Lavoy Allen should be a major force in the middle. The 6-9 senior is primed to become one of the premiere big men in the country should his trajectory continue, as he seems to have improved each season. In 2009-10, he became the first Temple player since Ollie Johnson to average a double-double, chalking up 11.5 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. He also shot a team-best 53.6 percent from the field and blocked 50 shots. Temple has two improving frontcourt players in junior Micheal Eric and sophomore Rahlir Jefferson. Eric, a 6-11 forward, can defend and run the floor and his numbers should go up. Jefferson, a 6-6 small forward, made a strong contribution at the defensive end and knows how to slide in around the basket for putbacks. Senior Craig Williams gives the Owls a big man who can play on the perimeter and shoot from 3-point range. Freshman Anthony Lee will see time, though Dunphy’s system is not an easy one to master.
2010-2011 Temple Predictions
This is the year Temple fans have been waiting for. Not only should the Owls roll into the NCAA Tournament, but nobody should be surprised if the results are pretty Sweet – as in 16.
Temple Finish in the A-10: 1st
