The YouTube video showing Keion Bell dunking over five teammates topped a million views, but it’s also telling: he’s pretty much the entire Waves show. Someone besides forward Mychel Thompson must occasionally rise up when Bell isn’t ringing, as when he shot just 34 percent over the last nine games of Pepperdine’s 11-game losing streak to close the season. Young and athletic as the Waves are, there’s been little indication those sort of players are on the roster; the erratic shooting and indifferent defense can’t all be a function of youth. Having Dane Suttle Jr. back healthy after ankle surgery won’t hurt.
