Old Dominion Players to Watch: Sharing the basketball is a key reason for the surge in Norfolk. Returning Darius James and Bazemore, who combined for 241 of the Monarchs’ 554 assists, is another reason to like ODU’s chances even without Gerald Lee.

2010-2011 Old Dominion Season Preview
Blaine Taylor has given the Monarchs a March presence. Last season, ODU won its first-round NCAA matchup against Notre Dame before battling Baylor to the end in a tough loss. ODU loses its leading scorer in Gerald Lee, but returns six key players from last year’s squad. Lee was dominant inside, but Frank HasseLL could be ready to assume his role. Hassell shot 54 percent from the floor and led the Monarchs in rebounding in 2009-10. Ben Finney and Kent Bazemore are two more consistent starters in the ODU lineup; Finney is a long-range shooter, while Bazemore goes to the rimwell but needs work on his free throws. ODU was stellar on the defensive end and outrebounded opponents by 8.1 per game.
