The No. 21 Texas Longhorns will try to move into a tie for third in the Big 12 with a win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Wednesday at the Frank Erwin Special Events Center in Austin, Texas.
The Longhorns beat the Cowboys 72-60 in their previous meeting on Feb 1. Texas holds a 41-35 edge in the all-time series with Oklahoma State.
Texas has won two of its last three games including a hard-fought 71-67-road victory at Texas Tech this past weekend. Gary Johnson led the team with a career-high 22 points and eight rebounds, while Damion James recorded his 15th double double on the year and 52nd in his career, with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. James comes into tonight’s contest ranked sixth in the league in scoring (17.6 ppg) and first in rebounding (10.8 rpg). The Longhorns will be without point guard Dogus Balbay who suffered a torn ACL in the first half of the game against Oklahoma State, and has been listed as being pretty much done for the remainder of the season.
In the meantime, the Cowboys are on a three-game win streak after knocking off nationally ranked Baylor in Stillwater on Saturday, 82-75. James Anderson matched his season high with 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his third double double of the season, while Keiton Page continued his hot streak with 22 points in the win. The Cowboys shot 48.2 percent from the floor overall and an impressive 14-of-25 from three-point range (.560). Anderson is ranked fourth nationally at 22.8 ppg in scoring so the Longhorns will need to find ways to shut him down. Senior guard Obi Muenelo is a distant second in scoring at 13.3 ppg, followed by Page’s 10.8 ppg, but still remain threats to any foe. The three have combined for 176 of the team’s 211 three-pointers to date.
The odd makers have Texas as –9 -point favorites in this one.

Texas climbed to No. 1 for two weeks back in January and then has slid all the way to No. 21. The Longhorns have had their ups and downs, while Oklahoma State seems to be peaking at the right moment. However, winning on the road has not come easy for the Cowboys and doing so in Austin will prove an even tougher challenge.
I expect a 7-point win for the Longhorns with plenty of three-point play for the win.
