Kentucky oozes talent but lack the focus indicative of a young team. Capable of competing with anyone, yet they seem to only push as hard as they need to. Patterson is a leading man playing supporting role and he does it well. Cousins is the leading goon in an imposing team of big men. Possibly better than Wall, though immature and gets rattled on the court leading to fouls. If Wall is gone to the NBA, the Wildcats hope he uses his lighting speed to keep the fast moving offense going, putting an end to the long drought since their last Championship. It could happen.
ETSU needs to find the balance between aggressiveness and thugishness. They play like a bigger team and have the fouls to prove it. Tubbs seems to fear shooting inside and Williams mimics him, settling for three point shots. Despite all the three point attempts, the team is not that good at them, which explains the scoring woes. Davis is almost a scoring liability but can pass. If they can keep stealing the ball, which they do well, and actually keep it, the team has some hopes.
The odds makers have the Wildcats as -20 ½ -point favorites.
I expect Kentucky to be caught off guard by an inside battle they didn’t expect allowing the Bucs to hang in there until the Cats bust it wide open in the second half to cruise to victory.
