The last time these two teams tangled the Cowboys edged out a 77-71 win back on Mar 3, of 2009.
Kansas State’s Jamar Samuels scored points as the Wildcats knocked off top-ranked Texas 71-62 on Monday night. KSU forward Curtis Kelly had 17 points and eight rebounds against one of college basketball’s best front lines. The Wildcats hounded the Longhorns with their man-to-man defense all game long that resulted in Texas shooting just a meager 36 percent from the field. The win was the Wildcats 14th straight at Bramlage Coliseum. Although KSU has to be excited about their defensive play against Texas the offensive production has to be a concern as they shot just 38 percent from the field. The huge win over Texas is only somewhat surprising as Kansas State is not a team that is easily intimidated. They demonstrated this by beating Washington State, Xavier, UNLV and Alabama during a four-game non-conference road stretch.
Over in Stillwater, James Anderson scored a game-high 26 points while Marshall Moses had 20 points and 18 rebounds as the Cowboys cruised to a 90-78 win over Colorado on Wednesday. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Oklahoma State that dropped games to Oklahoma and then No. 22 Baylor. Anderson leads the Big 12 scoring with 21.8 ppg and has scored in double figures in 32 straight games. But the Cowboys shooting woes continue to be a bit of a concern as they are the poorest shooting team in the Big 12 averaging 44 percent per game. On the other hand, OSU takes care of the ball and has a league low of 11.1 turnovers per game, and coupled with their 35.6 RPG, helps to restore some balance to their game.
The odds makers have Oklahoma State as +11-point underdogs in this one.
OSU continues to win games despite a lack of height and depth on their bench, but they will face a tough test against Kansas State. The Wildcats will want to pressure the Cowboys early on and keep tight coverage on James Anderson who is OSU’s best weapon.
Even with home court advantage you can expect the Wildcats to take this one from OSU by double digits.
