2009-2010 Iona Season Preview
The Gaels looked like a sleeper team for much of the 2008-09 season, but closed with a dud losing 43-40 to Marist in the first round of the conference tournament, having dropped nine of their final 11 games overall. lona probably hoped for more marked improvement in coach Kevin Willard’s second season. As it turned out, the Gaels’ most notable accomplishment may have been finding the program’s future cornerstone – Scott Machado, the league’s Rookie of the Year. On the downside: The Gaels lose leading scorer Gary Springer, their only player to average double-figures in scoring.
