2009-2010 Georgia Season Preview
It didn’t take long for new Georgia coach Mark Fox to make a good impression with his players.
Upon his arrival, Fox met with his team and explained why he left the University of Nevada, where he guided the WolfPaek to three NCAA Tournament appearances in five seasons.
Fox’s attitude has inspired senior Albert Jackson to finish his career strong, not just for himself, but to honor his new coach.
Though the sentiment is there, it will probably take some time before the Bulldogs improve upon their 12-20 finish overall and 3-13 performance in the Southeastern Conference last season.

Georgia Backcourt
The Bulldogs ranked last in the league in scoring with 64.9 points per game last season and will be hampered by the departure of swingman Terrance Woodbury, who led the team with 14.0 points per game. Guards Zac Swansey and Troy Brewer transferred, and Corey Buder was a senior, leaving Fox with lime depth.
As a freshman, point guard Dustin Ware turned out to be a pleasant surprise and wound up earning the starting spot. The Bulldogs signed playmaker Vincent Williams, who can score or distribute the ball.
Reserve guard Travis Leslie is a high-flyer who played well at times, but he sat out the last five games.
According to Jackson, the team will be counting on redshirt freshman Ebuka Anyaorah to bolster the backcourt with his shooting ability and defensive prowess.
Georgia’s best pure shooter is walk-on Ricky McPhee, who shot 36.4 percent from behind the arc.
Georgia Frontcourt
Led by All-SEC Freshman selection Trey Thompkins, the strength of the Bulldogs is their post players. Thompkins is a legitimate scoring threat and rebounder who was good enough to make USA Basketball’s Under-19 World Championship Team.
Jackson should put up better numbers in his final season, having spent extra time working out and setting tangible goals with Fox.
Athletic forward Chris Barnes gives the team a lot of energy off the bench with his ability to block shots and rebound, while 6-8 Jeremy Price is another strong post banger.
2009-2010 Georgia Predictions
Rising from the basement of the SEC East will be a challenge for the Bulldogs this season.
They have too many questions in the backcourt and lack a proven scorer, other than Thompkins, to threaten the rest of the league.
At this point, the best Fox can hope for is getting his players to grind out games, keeping their morale up and building a strong foundation for the future. Georgia Finish in the SEC: 6th in East Division
