#15 Georgetown Hoyas (7-0) v s. #17 Washington Huskies (6-1)
The No.15 Georgetown Hoyas will face off against the No. 17 Washington Huskies on Saturday in the John Wooden Classic at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Ca.
This will be the first meeting between these two teams. It will be Georgetown’s first game in California since 2001.
The Huskies, defending regular-season Pac-10 champions, have averaged 84.8 points through their first five games, tops in the Pac-10, due partly to forcing 17.6 turnovers per game, also No. 1 in the league. They are coming off an 88-76 victory over Cal State Northridge on Monday. Isaiah Thomas scored 21 points—13 from the foul line—and senior Quincy Pondexter added 20 points and seven rebounds in the win. Pondexter came in averaging 11 points per game through five games. Washington is averaging 86 points per game.
Georgetown is fresh off an impressive 72-65 win over No. 22 Butler on Tuesday night in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. Greg Monroe had 24 points and 15 rebounds—both career highs—leading his team to victory. Monroe finished 9 of 20 from the field while Austin Freeman was 4 of 5 from 3-point range and 18 points. Georgetown finished with a 43-30 rebound advantage, outscoring and out muscling the Bulldogs 30-16 in the paint. The Hoyas are averaging 72 points per game and are 50 percent from the field.
Odds are not posted yet for this game.
The Huskies have posted a 5-0 start against five teams you’d expect them to beat, which makes you wonder if they can beat a team in the Top 25, after falling to Texas Tech – the only ranked team they have played thus far.
Look for the Hoyas to dominate this game inside while knocking down enough 3-pointers to keep the Huskies defense guessing.
Georgetown wins this one by 10.
