#22 Butler Bulldogs (6-2) v #15 Georgetown Hoyas (6-0)
The No. 22 Butler Bulldogs will tip off at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night against the No. 15 Georgetown Hoyas in the Jimmy V Classic.
This will be the first ever meeting between Georgetown and Butler. The Hoyas have an all-time record of 10-7 against teams from the Horizon League. Butler is 1-7 in its past eight games against Top 25 opponents.
The Bulldogs are fresh off an 84-37 win over Valparaiso on Saturday. Five players scored in double figures and the Bulldogs shot a season-high 56.8 percent from the field, missing only five second-half shots. Butler also was 27 of 34 from the free throw line, and forced 15 turnovers. Matt Howard, the reigning conference player of the year, finished with 16 points and five rebounds, while Willie Veasley had 15 points and five rebounds, and Shelvin Mack scored 11 points. Butler was 7 of 17 on 3-pointers. The Dogs are scoring 69.8 points per game.
The Hoyas downed the American Eagles 73-46 over the weekend. Chris Wright and Henry Sims lead the team with 12 points apiece in the win. Sophomore center Greg Monroe had nine points, a career-high 13 rebounds and four blocked shots, while Julian Vaughn added 11 points to the total. The Hoyas held the Eagles to 27 percent shooting from the field. Georgetown leads the Big East in scoring, defense and field goal percentage. They are scoring 72.7 points per game.
The odds makers currently have Georgetown as -4-point favorites.
Both the Hoyas and the Bulldogs have played pretty cupcake schedules so far, so this will be a good test for both teams as they face their first ranked opponent of the season.
Look for the Hoyas to get a lot out of 6-foot-11 Monroe to win this one as Georgetown begins to fight their way back to the top of the Big East.
