The Oklahoma City Thunder will look to gain the edge in season-series over the Los Angeles Clippers when the two teams clash for the third time this year. Saturday’s tip-off from the Staples Center is set for 10:30 p.m. (ET) and its will be broadcast nationally on NBA TV.
Oklahoma is steam rolling toward the postseason with five straight wins and nine in its last 10 heading into Friday night’s game against Portland. The Thunder raised their record to 50-24 straight-up (39-34-1 against the spread) with a convincing 116-98 victory over Phoenix as a three-point road favorite this past Wednesday. They are very close to clinching the Northwest Division and are in fourth-place in the Western Conference.
Kevin Durant continues to garner serious MVP consideration with a league-high 27.8 points and 6.8 rebounds a game. He is flanked by Russell Westbrook, who is averaging 22 points and a team-high 8.3 assists a game. Kendrick Perkins has worked himself into the mix since coming over from the Celtics in late February with six points and 7.7 rebounds a game.
The Thunder are ranked fifth in the league in scoring with an average of 104.7 points a game while giving up 100.9 points. They are shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from three-point range. The LA Clippers have already matched last year’s win total of 29 and have a chance to eclipse it heading into tonight’s game against Phoenix. They are 4-6 SU in their last 10 games and 29-46 SU overall (34-40-1 ATS). The Clippers have been a decent home team this season with a 21-18 SU record at the Staples Center.
If it were not for the thunderous dunks of Blake Griffin that are a mainstay of ESPN’s nightly highlights, the Clippers would once again be languishing in the huge shadow of Lakers. The reality is this team is starting to put the right pieces in place that could actually make it competitive in the West in the near future.
Griffin is averaging 22.4 points and a team-high 12.1 rebounds, but Eric Gordon has also been a force with 23 points a game. Mo Williams is adding 17.1 points and 6.1 assists since coming over from Cleveland and Chris Kaman is pulling down seven rebounds a game. LA is averaging 98.9 points and 42.1 rebounds a game, which is ranked 11th in the NBA.
Oklahoma City is 4-0 ATS in its last four games on the road but just 2-3-1 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of its last four games.
Los Angeles is 0-6 ATS in its last six home games and just 2-8 ATS in its last 10 games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of its last four games.
Head-to-head, the Thunder have won four of the last six games SU. The Clippers came away with a 107-92 win as an 8 ½-point home underdog in November, but Oklahoma City came out on top 111-88 as an 8 ½-point home favorite on Feb.22.
The odds makers have the Oklahoma City Thunder as a -5 point favorite with an over/under of 205.5.

This time around the Thunder should once again be an eight to nine-point favorite and for good reason. Griffin may grab the spotlight by posting someone, but Oklahoma continues its roll by grabbing the win by a double-digit margin.
