With the conference semifinals underway there are four teams left vying for the right to represent the West in the NBA Finals with the hopes of bringing home a World Championship. Here is a look at each series along with each team’s updated odds to win the conference.
#3 Phoenix Suns (5-2) vs. #7 San Antonio Spurs (8-1)
Portland gave Phoenix all they could handle the first four games in their opening round match-up, but with the series tied at two games apiece, the Suns rolled in the next two to win the series in six.
In game one of this series, Steve Nash decided to take matters into his own hands to make sure his team got off to a fast start by 33 points and dishing out 10 assists in the Suns 111-102 victory. In game two it was Amare’ Stoudemire’s turn to do most of the damage as he had 23 points and 11 rebounds in their 110-102 win to go up 2-0.
With bragging rights for the best team in Texas on the line, San Antonio took it to Dallas in their opening round series by knocking the Mavericks, #2 seed in the West out of the playoffs in six games.
Beating a team they had met nine previous times in the playoffs since 1992 was next on their agenda entering this series against the Suns. In game one, three Spurs players scored over 20 points led by Manu Ginobili’s 27 but it was not enough to overcome Nash’s tremendous effort. In game two, Tim Duncan had 29 points and 10 rebounds and Tony Parker added 20 points and seven assists but it was still not enough to overcome another strong effort by the Suns.
The series shifts to San Antonio for game three on Friday night at 9:30 P.M. (ET) and game four on Sunday night at 8:00 P.M. (ET).
