The Phoenix Suns will try and extend their current winning streak to five games with when they take on Boston Celtics at the TD Garden this Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast live on NBATV.
Phoenix is in the midst of its best run of the season with eight victories in its last 10 games including four straight heading into this game. The Suns have gotten fat feasting of some of the weaker teams in the East with a 110-108 OT squeaker over Indiana this past Sunday as a 2 ½-point road underdog and a 104-103 OT win over New Jersey as 2 ½-point road favorite the following night. They are now 31-27 straight-up overall and 26-30-2 against the spread. Phoenix is 9 ½-games behind the LA Lakers in the Pacific Division and in ninth-place in the Western Conference.
Last week the Suns traded Goran Dragic to Houston for Aaron Brooks to add another scoring punch for the playoff run. Steve Nash leads the team with 16.4 points and is second in the NBA with in assists with 11.4 a game while Grant Hill and Vince Carter are each averaging over 13 points a game. Brooks was averaging 11.3 points and 3.4 assists off the bench for the Rockets.
Phoenix is ranked fourth in the NBA in scoring with an average of 105.2 points a game. Unfortunately, it is giving up the same amount of points to its opponents. The Suns are shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from three-point range. They are ranked 17th in the league from the foul-line; converting on 76.5 percent of their attempts.
Boston has won five of its last six games including a 99-92 victory over the LA Clippers this past Saturday as an eight-point road favorite followed by 107-102 win over Utah as a 4 ½-point road favorite on Monday. The Celtics are now 43-15 SU on the year but just 28-28 ATS. They lead New York by 12 ½ games in the Atlantic Division and have a one-game lead over Miami in the Eastern Conference.
Much was made about the Celtics’ decision to trade Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City for Jeff Green. It is hard to measure the long-term impact of this deal but so far Green has only averaged six points in his two games with Boston after averaging 14.8 with the Thunder. Paul Piece still leads the way with 19 points a game while Ray Allen is second with 17.4. Rajon Rondo leads the league in assists with an average of 12.1 a game.
Boston is averaging 98 points a game but only giving up an average of 91.4 which is the third-best point differential in the league. It is shooting 49.1 percent from the field, which is tops in the NBA and ranked sixth from three-point range; completing 37.3 percent of its attempts.
Phoenix is 4-1 ATS in its last five games on the road and 3-1 ATS in its last four games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of its last five games.
Boston is 3-2 ATS in its last five home games and 4-2 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of its last four games.
Head-to-head, the Suns have won the last three games both SU and ATS including an 88-71 romp on Jan.28 as a 4 ½-point home underdog. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of the last four meetings.
The odds makers have the Boston Celtics as a -7 point favorite with an over/under of 197.5.
