Last meeting: Grizzlies took control of the series with a 104-86 victory in game 4.
Well it has come to a point few expected for the San Antonio Spurs. They were never my favourite to win the title but I would be lying if I said I though they would lose to Memphis in the first round. I thought the Grizzlies would push them, not really threaten…but they have and then some. San Antonio lost by nearly 20 points in game 4 despite collecting more points in the paint against a good Memphis front line. They also beat Memphis on the break outscoring them on fast break points as well. The primary cause of their most recent loss was that they didn’t value the ball. Memphis turned the Spurs over 17 times with guard Tony Parker the most guilty culprit with 7. As the more experienced team that isn’t supposed to happen. You have to think this team will respond on their homecourt when facing elimination but it hasn’t been pretty so far.
Memphis is moving pretty fast these days. A week ago they had never even won a playoff game and now they are threatening to knock off the top seed in the West. Above I sighted how they did a good job turning over Parker and the Spurs and here I am going to write about how they protected the ball giving themselves a great chance to win. While San Antonio turned it over 17 times the Grizzlies gave it up just 8 times. I never thought of guard Mike Conley as much of a floor general but he is coming of age and was sharp with a 15 point, 7 assist performance (with just one TO) last time out. He is not trying to do too much and the Grizzlies received some surprise support from Darrell Arthus and Greivis Vazquez, who shot a combined 11 for 15. This is a true team effort and all without Rudy Gay.
The current line on this one is Spurs -6.5. Seems like a lot of points to give to a team that looks spent right now.

Prediction: The Magic responded with a vengeance when pushed last night and I think the Spurs will respond in turn. Not a blowout but a game with little doubt.
