With the conference semifinals underway there are four teams left vying for the right to represent the East in the NBA Finals with the hopes of bringing home a World Championship. Here is a look at each series along with each team’s updated odds to win the East.
#2 Orlando Magic (5-4) vs. #3 Atlanta Hawks (40-1)
Orlando breezed through their opening round of these playoffs by sweeping Charlotte in four games. Their average margin of victory was nine points and the closest the Bobcats ever came was a four point 90-86 loss in game three.
Well rested and ready to go, the Magic put a major beating on Atlanta in game one on Tuesday night. After only leading by two points after the first quarter, they elevated their game to a whole different level, outscoring the Hawks by 20 points in the second quarter and 21 in the third on their way to a 114-71 blowout victory. Dwight Howard led the way for Orlando with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Atlanta fell behind two games to three in their first round series against Milwaukee as the Bucks stunned them 91-87 at home in game five. Not to be deterred, they reeled off two straight impressive wins including a series clinching 95-74 in game seven to advance to this round.
Possibly still fatigued from the seven games it took to oust the Bucks, Atlanta was blindsided by the Magic in game one as they are probably still not really sure they knew what hit them. Joe Johnson, who averaged close to 22 points a game in the regular season, was held to 10 points and the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year, Jamal Crawford only managed five.
Game two is scheduled for tonight in Orlando with tip off slated for 8:00 P.M. The series then shifts to Atlanta with game three on Saturday at 5:00 P.M. and game four on Monday, April 10th at 8:00 P.M.
