Despite the uncertainty surrounding Carmelo Anthony the Nuggets seem to have found their stride. They are on a 7 game winning streak heading into Tuesday nights game at Charlotte, the first of a four game road swing. They are only 3-5 on the road this season with all three of their victories coming in their current winning streak and this will be a tough test against Boston who will be sitting at home, rested and waiting. The Nuggets are certainly going to try and force the tempo but that is going to be a challenge against Boston’s 3rd ranked scoring defense in the second game of a back to back. This is a tough spot for one of the hottest teams in the league right now. To win they are going to need a big game out of Anthony who dropped 32 in their road loss at Boston last season. A good game out of J.R. Smith is a must too.
Boston is cruising this season. It seems like those upstarts in Miami got their attention and they are taking it out on the rest of the league. They are also riding a 7 game winning steak that has them at the top of most NBA power rankings. Normally the Nuggets up tempo attack might be a problem given the age of the C’s core players but Denver is likely to be a bit gassed in this one. Also look for the Celtics to establish O’Neal to start the game. He left the last game a little early with a calf tweak and the best way to get the most out of him is to exploit his matchup early. Nene will have trouble with him if they make the effort.
The odds makers have the Boston Celtics as a -6.5 point favorite with an over/under of 204.
Prediction: Boston has lost only one game at home and this doesn’t seem like a spot for another. Denver will battle and show that they can compete but ultimately they will fade down the stretch.
