The Knicks were able to out last Orlando on Monday night, winning by 6 in overtime in a game they desperately had to have as they try and build some momentum for the playoffs. Carmelo Anthony had a rare double-double with 39 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge but more impressive might have been how the Knicks protected the ball turning it over only 14 times in the extended game. New PG Chauncey Billups didn’t turn it over once and combo guard Toney Douglas, who is getting more run lately, turned it over just one time in 37 minutes. Despite the high score in this one, since the trade New York is a slower paced team than it was before. Keep that in mind down the stretch and especially into the playoffs where the style of play can sometimes even grind to a halt. With their newly composed roster the Knicks stand a much better chance in games like that than they did before but totals play are becoming harder to make when this team is involved.
The New Jersey Nets had another humbling loss last night losing by 25 to the surging Houston Rockets. Houston was about as efficient as could be while the Nets were…the Nets. New Jersey had a bit of a bump after acquiring point guard Deron Williams from Utah but with him out this club has really struggled lately. There just isn’t a lot of talent there to be honest. Williams is supposed to return tonight against New York but it is probably best to stay away from this team that is just playing out the string. However I want to note the continued unexpected play of power forward Kris Humphries. The former Raptor is 5th in the league in rebounding at 10.4 per game. This stat is even more impressive given that he averages less than 30 minutes per game. He is the only one in the top 10 that averages so few minutes. He will look to work the glass tonight against Melo and Co. and is a good daily fantasy sleeper.
