The Dallas Mavericks unexpected vacation after disposing of defending champion Los Angeles Lakers in four games has finally come to an end. Starting this Tuesday night on their home court, they will face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the best-of-seven Western Conference Finals. The Thunder are coming off a hard-fought series win over Memphis in the other semifinal matchup including a 105-90 victory as a 6 ½-point home favorite in Game 7 on Sunday night.
Oklahoma City cruised to a five-game series win in the opening round against Denver. Its only loss was a 104-101 Game 4 setback as a three-point road underdog. The Thunder fell behind two games to one to the Grizzlies in the next round, but advanced to the finals with three wins in the next four games. The Thunder are 6-5-1 against the spread in the playoffs with the total going 5-6-1 in their 12 games.
Their chances in this series rest squarely on the shoulders of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. These two have combined for an average of 52.8 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 9.3 assists a game in the postseason. Oklahoma City has averaged 103 points and 46.6 rebounds a game and held its opponents to 98.7 points and 41.3 rebounds.
Dallas lost Games 3 and 4 on the road against Portland in the first round, but rallied for back-to back victories in the next two games to win the series 4-2. The Mavericks stunned the Lakers 96-94 in Game 1 of the conference semifinals to set the stage for an impressive four-game sweep. Dallas comes into this series a perfect 9-0-1 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of the 10 games it has played.
Dirk Nowitzki has been the difference for the Mavericks and is playing some of his best ball of the year. He averaged 26.5 points and 8.4 rebounds in the first two series which was even better than his regular season average of 23 points and seven rebounds a game. Jason Terry is second in scoring with 18.3 points a game and Tyson Chandler is earning his keep with a team-high 8.7 rebounds a game. The ageless one, Jason Kidd leads the team in assists with 7.2.
Head-to-head, Dallas won two of three regular season games straight-up and was 2-1 ATS. The total went ‘over’ in two of the three games.
BetUs.com has the Mavericks as a -278 favorite to win the series with Oklahoma City the underdog at +167. Dallas opened a lot of eyes with its sweep of LA, but the dynamic duo of Durant and Westbrook finds a way to get the Thunder in the NBA finals in another thrilling seven-game series win.
