Chicago is coming off a 45 point romp of Philadelphia as a five-point home favorite in a 121-76 win last night. The total went well ‘over’ the 191 ½ point line. It was the Bulls eighth victory in their last 10 games and moved their overall record on the year to 17-9 straight-up (16-9-1 against the spread). Chicago leads the Pacers by 4 ½ games in the division and is currently in third place in the Eastern Conference.
The Bulls played their second game without Joakim Noah, who is out for at least two months with a thumb injury, but Carlos Boozer stepped up with 16 points and 11 rebounds against the Sixers. Boozer is the second leading rebounder on the team behind Noah, averaging 8.3 per game. Derrick Rose is Chicago’s leading scorer, knocking down an average of 24.2 points through the first 26 games. Boozer is second with 18.1 points and Luol Deng is adding 17.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game to round out the core strength of this team.
The Bulls are averaging 100.9 points per game and shooting 47 percent from the floor which is sixth best in the league. Their defense is giving up an average of 95.6 points per game which rank them ninth.
Washington is off to a dreadful start with only seven wins in its first 26 games and just two in its last 13. In an effort to shake things up, the Wizards recently traded Gilbert Arenas to Orlando for Rashard Lewis, who is expected to make his debut in this game. Things can only get better as they have nowhere to go but up with a 7-19 record (11-15 ATS) that has the team firmly entrenched in last place in not only the Southeast Division, but the Eastern Conference as well.
The one bright spot for Washington has been the play of rookie John Wall. He is second on the team in scoring with 16.7 points per game and leads in assists with 8.9. Wall will be out of the lineup for this one, still recovering from a bone bruise, but look for Andray Blatche, who leads the Wizards with 17.3 points per game, and Nick Young, who is averaging 14.5 points to pick up the slack.
Washington is ranked 18th in the league in scoring with 97.5 points per game, but are allowing its opponents to score an average of 104.2. The Wizards are shooting just 44.5 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from three-point range.
Chicago is 8-4 ATS in 12 games on the road this season and 5-1 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of its last eight games.
Washington is 7-6 ATS in 13 home games this season but 2-4 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in its last five games.
Head-to-head, the Bulls have won four out of the last five games, but the Wizards are 3-2 ATS. Earlier this season Chicago beat Washington 103-96 as a 10-point home favorite. The total stayed ‘under’ the 201 ½ point line as eight of the last 10 meetings have stayed ‘under’ the total.
Stick with Chicago to win and cover the 2 ½ points this time around as the Bulls are currently playing their best ball of the year and should have little trouble with the Wizards, especially with Wall still on the mend.
The odds makers have the Chicago Bulls as a -2.5 point favorite with an over/under of 193.5.
