The New York Yankees will try and maintain their slim lead in the AL East when they close-out a four game weekend set with the Minnesota Twins this Sunday afternoon at Target Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on TBS.

New York has gone 7-3 in its last 10 games but it is still clinging to just a half a game lead over Boston in the division. It has already won the first two games of this series heading into Saturday’s Game 3 after pounding the Twins 8-1 as a 159 road favorite on Friday night. The Yankees are 76-47 overall; 40-24 at home and 36-23 on the road.
The New York lineup continues to hit the ball all over the park with 36 runs in its last five games. The Yankees lead the Majors in scoring with an average of 5.43 runs per game. Ivan Nova is scheduled to get the start on Sunday. He is 12-4 this season with a 4.21 ERA, but has gotten tagged for 10 earned runs on 14 hits in his last two starts. Nova has benefitted from some solid run support with five wins in his last five starts.
Minnesota has long since has been relegated to the role of spoiler with an overall record of 54-70. It has won just three of its last 10 games to fall 12 games behind Detroit in the AL Central. The Twins are 27-38 on the road this season and 27-32 at home.
This lineup continues to struggle at the plate with an average of just 3.43 runs in its last seven games. The Twins lost five of those games after only managing to score a total of nine runs. Minnesota will send Nick Blackburn to the mound in this one. He only lasted 4.2 innings against Detroit in his last start, giving up five runs on 11 hits. Blackburn is 7-10 this season with an ERA of 4.53. He is 2-1 against the Yankees with a 4.73 ERA.
With the victories in the first two games of this series, the Yankees have now won four of five games against Minnesota this season after sweeping the Twins in three straight games in last year ALDS. The total went ‘over’ the eight-run line on Thursday night and was a ‘push’ in Game 2.
The odds makers have the New York Yankees as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 9.5.
Prediction: The Yankees have owned the Twins as of late at that should once again be the case on Sunday with a win in the series finale.
