The Minnesota Twins have one of the toughest opening schedules in the league this year. They barely escaped Toronto with a victory and now they are off to the Bronx to face the Yankees. It is early but their pitching has certainly let them down (both starting and relief). Also, this team has had a very hard time against the Yankees of late (2-10 last year including another playoff sweep). Still this is a pretty good team and I would be surprised if they are not in the mix in the AL Central by the time things are all said and done. They need to get a good performance from starter Scott Baker tonight as their bullpen has been used extensively thus far. His numbers against the Yankees are enough to be optimistic about their chances even though the Twins seemed to be intimidated by the Bronx Bombers (6-30 in NY).
The New York Yankees appear to be playing to form so far this season with shaky pitching and an offense that can bail it out most of the time. They won 2 of 3 against the Tigers but only once did they hold their opponent to less than 6 runs (Sabathia) and they scored 7 runs in their loss yesterday. I know it is early (I said it again but it is true) but this is what many envisioned with the Yanks this year. If their offense mashes than their pitching should be good enough, most of the time. They certainly have high hopes for Ivan Nova who showed some promise last year but has not been part of the Yankee dominance over the Twins of late. They have to hope that he can start strong and get in the heads of Minnesota. Either that or mash away at Scott Baker. Either strategy should work effectively.
The odds makers have the New York Yankees as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 9.

Prediction: I don’t like Baker in the Bronx against that lineup to ward off the Twins Yankee’s demons. Expect a high scoring affair.
