Pitching Probables: Jeremy Bonderman vs. R.A. Dickey

I have to admit that I thought that Bonderman was done.  He had been out for so long and was looking so poor I thought he was going to be another cautionary tale of how to burn out a young talented starter.  He may not be back to 2006 form but he is giving the Tigers quality starts most nights having given up more than 3 ERs in only two of his last 10 starts.  He seems to like inter-league play as well with strong outings in his last two starts against Washington and Pittsburgh.  The Tigers record is probably better than it should be as the only think they do well is get on base (5th in OPS).  They just don’t have much clutch hitting other than the fabulous Miggy Cabrera (they are 17th in runs scored).  They enter their series against the Mets having one eight of nine, beating up on the weaklings of the NL – Pittsburgh, Washington and Arizona.

Mets are on a pretty good run themselves.  Or at least they were until they visited the Bronx.  They only scored 7 runs in the series dropping the last two game including a shutout on Sunday at the hands of lefty C.C. Sabathia.  Mets have been excellent at home and perfect against the AL Central this year entering the series.  Dickey, a baffling knuckler, got a no decision in his first game of the season and has rattled of 5 consecutive wins since.  His presence has really helped the team as teams have trouble adjusting to him and then getting back in groove the next day as well.  These teams seam pretty evenly matched but the Tigers great average hitting, and patience, will be put to the test.

The odds makers have the Mets as 1-½ favorites with a run total of 8 ½.

Prediction:  A couple of hot teams teams here.  The gut says to go with the home team and knuckleballer even though I think this game will be won late when both teams have gone to their pen.
