Everyone’s favourite for the World Series, Boston, hasn’t gotten off to the start they would have liked to the 2011 season with two losses to last year’s Series participant Texas.  Yesterday’s loss was even worse than the opener as starter John Lackey didn’t even get out of the fourth inning.  Win or lose today the Red Sox have to get new outfielder Carl Crawford going.  The free agent aquisition hasn’t had a hit in his first two games in his new uniform.  Today’s starter Clay Buchholz had a very strong season last year and was among the league leaders in ERA.  However, in his young career he is not known for going deep into games and the Red Sox bullpen has already been worked pretty hard while being fairly ineffective so far this season.  Will the Sox let one of their cornerstone young pitchers go deep into a game so early this season?  I am not confident they will which might hurt them in this one.

Texas’s bats have come alive for the first two games with a total of 22 runs scored.  That is a good sign for a pitching staff that isn’t as deep as it was last year when they made their run.  Especially hot in the early going are Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz.  Both missed important time last year due to injuries so it is good to see that they are off to good starts with two homers each..  So far the Rangers pitching has been adequate and they are hoping for more of the same with Harrison on the mound.  Last year he wasn’t the most reliable option and he has failed to live up to expectations since joining the big club a few years back.  If he can keep the Rangers in the game than the offense may be able to overcome again.
