The Yankees and Rangers have split the first two games of the series so this one will be the clincher. It is early but this is still an important contest that could reveal a lot, especially for rookie starter Alexi Ogando. Thus far the righthander who we got a sneak peek of in the playoffs last year has been impressive. He hasn’t given up a run yet this season and has scattered just 4 hits over his first 13 innings. Mastering Seattle and Detroit are one thing, stepping into the Bronx and taming the Yankees are something else all together. They can say what they want about expectations but Ogando has been a pleasant surprise. If he keeps up this pace the Rangers might be able to run and hide this year. His one blemish last postseason was a homer to Curtis Granderson who you can bet will be in the lineup tonight.
The New York Yankees sit in first place in the East even though their play this season has been just OK to this point. The lineup has been solid and is leading the league in homers right now but the pitching has been very soft. The lone exception being hoss ace C.C. Sabathia who has an ERA of 1.45 even though he hasn’t personally won any of this three starts. I expect that to change this evening as the big lefty has always been good under the bright lights and has had success against the Rangers. His last start against Texas was a home playoff win last year. It wasn’t the most dominant game of his career but it got the job done which is what he does almost all of the time. I am looking for him to step forward for this one.

Prediction: A solid performance by Sabathia and a coming back to earth by Ogando yield a Yankees game and series victory.
