MLB National League Power Rankings- August 30
The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season has entered the home stretch and with a little over 30 games left to play, a couple teams are already gearing up for a long run in the postseason while quite a few other teams are already relegated to making plans for next year.
Each of the National League’s 16 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL at the end of August with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.
Atlanta Braves Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3/1 World Series 13/2
Atlanta has lost five out of its last eight games to drop to 75-55 on the year. Despite their recent swoon, the Braves still lead the NL East by two games over Philadelphia and at 46-18 have the best home record in the Major Leagues. Atlanta’s pitching continues to be the strength of this team as its 3.56 team ERA is third best in the NL. The Braves .259 team batting average ranks them eighth in the league and their 615 runs scored rank them third.
San Diego Padres Odds to Win the NL Pennant 7/1 World Series 15/1
San Diego is just 1-4 in its last five game including three straight losses to the Phillies over the weekend. The Padres (76-53) still have the best record in the NL and lead San Francisco in the West by five full games. San Diego’s pitching continues to be the most solid in the NL this season as it leads the league with a 3.28 team ERA. The Padres team hitting has not been nearly as good as they are ranked 13th in the NL with a team batting average of .249. They are ranked 11th in runs scored with 568.
Cincinnati Reds Odds to Win the NL Pennant 11/2 World Series 15/1
After taking two out of three from the Cubs over the weekend, Cincinnati is now 75-55 and has a five game lead over St. Louis in the Central. The Reds pitching this season has been inconsistent at times, but their bats continue to be lights out.. While its team ERA of 4.12 ranks Cincinnati ninth in the NL, its .272 team batting average and 650 runs scored are still tops in the league.
Philadelphia Phillies Odds to Win the NL Pennant 13/4 World Series 7/1
It has been quite a roller coaster ride for Philadelphia (73-57) over the past seven days. First the Phillies lost four straight games to Houston at home to start the week before flying out the West Coast to win three straight against the Padres over the weekend. They now trail the Braves by two games in the East, but lead the Giants in the wildcard race by 1 ½ games and the Cardinals by three games. The Phillies have a 3.78 team ERA which ranks them sixth in the NL and a team batting average of .256 which ties them for 10th. Their 597 runs scored rank them sixth in the league.
