MLB National League Power Rankings

MLB National League Power Rankings- August 2nd

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season is headed for the home stretch and after 100 + games of action some teams are making a statement they hope to carry right through to the postseason while some others have dug themselves a hole they probably will not be able to climb out of.

All 16 National League teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL as we begin the month of August with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

Atlanta Braves Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3/1 World Series 7/1

Atlanta’s lead in the NL East is down to just 2 ½ games over Philadelphia after the Braves have lost six out of their last 10 games while the Phillies have won eight out of their last 10. They are now 59-45 overall but just 25-32 on the road. Fortunately 14 of their next 17 games are at Turner Field in Atlanta. The Braves pitching has held up as they have a team ERA of 3.62, fourth best in the NL. Their hitting has been solid as well as they are ranked fifth in the league with a team batting average of .259. They are ranked seventh in runs scored with 476.

San Diego Padres Odds to Win the NL Pennant 9/1 World Series 20/1

Despite the fact San Diego has won six out of its last 10, the Padres lead in the NL West over San Francisco is down to just 1 ½ games. After dropping two out of three to the Marlins over the weekend they are now 61-42 overall. The strength of this team lies in their pitching as the Padres lead the NL with a team ERA of just 3.25. They continue to struggle at the plate as they are ranked 13th in the league with a team batting average of .251. Their 448 total runs scored rank them 12th.

St. Louis Cardinals Odds to Win the NL Pennant 4/1 World Series 8/1

The battle for control in the NL Central rages on as St. Louis currently has a ½ game lead over Cincinnati despite losing five of its last 10 games. The Cardinals did manage to sweep the Pirates over the weekend to raise their overall record to 59-46. Their pitching has remained solid as they are ranked second in the NL with a team ERA of 3.29. The hitting has been just as good with a team batting average of .265, third best in the league. The Cardinals are ranked eighth is runs scored with 473.

San Francisco Giants Odds to Win the NL Pennant 12/1 World Series 25/1

After winning eight of its last 10 games, including a three game sweep of the Dodgers over the weekend, San Francisco remains right on the Padres heels with an overall record of 61-45. The Giants are 1 ½ games back in the division and lead the NL wildcard race by two games. This team remains extremely balanced as they are ranked third in the NL in pitching with a 3.41 team ERA and fourth in hitting with a team batting average of .262. They are ranked ninth in the league in runs scored with 469.
