MLB National League Power Rankings- July 19th
The 2010 Major League Baseball’s second half of the regular season is underway and after the first 90 plus games of action some teams are making a statement they hope to carry right through the second half while some others have dug themselves a hole they may not be able to climb out of.
All 16 National League teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL midway through July with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.
Atlanta Braves Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3/1 World Series 7/1
Despite a four game split with Milwaukee this past weekend, Atlanta increased their lead in the East to five games over New York and 5 ½ games over Philadelphia. The Braves are now 54-38 overall and 6-4 in their last 10 games. At 32-12 they have the best record at home in the NL. Their pitching remains solid as they are ranked fourth in the NL with a team ERA of 3.66. The Braves bats remain productive as well as they are ranked seventh in team batting average (.261) and sixth in runs scored (425).
San Diego Padres Odds to Win the NL Pennant 9/1 World Series 20/1
San Diego just completed a three game sweep of Arizona this past weekend to open up a four game lead over Colorado and a 4 ½ game lead over San Francisco in the West. The Padres are 54-37 overall and 6-4 in their last 10 games. San Diego continues to win games behind the best pitching in the NL with a league leading team ERA of 3.25. Their bats remain the weak link of this team as they are ranked 13th in the NL with a batting average of just .253. Their 402 runs scored rank them 12th in the league.
St. Louis Cardinals Odds to Win the NL Pennant 4/1 World Series 8/1
With a four game sweep of the Dodgers over the weekend, St. Louis finds them self back in first place in the Central division with a ½ game lead over Cincinnati. The Cardinals are 51-41 overall and have now won five straight games. Their pitching is ranked second in the NL with a team ERA of 3.32. With a team batting average of .262, they are ranked sixth in the league. They are ranked eighth in total runs scored with 413.
Colorado Rockies Odds to Win the NL Pennant 8/1 World Series 15/1
After winning seven of their last 10 games, Colorado finds them self in the power rankings for the first time this season. The Rockies are 50-41 overall and four games in back of San Diego in the West. Their team ERA in now 4.03, moving them down to eighth in the NL. The Rockies bats continue to be the strength of this team as they are ranked third in the NL with a .265 batting average and 434 runs scored.
