MLB American League Power Rankings- June 28th
The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is heading toward the halfway point and after the first 12 weeks of action some teams are already making a statement they hope to carry right through this summer while some others have already dug themselves a hole they may not be able to climb out of.
All 14 American League teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL as we close out the month of June along with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.
New York Yankees Odds to win the AL Pennant 3-2 World Series 5-2
At 47-28, New York continues to have the best record in baseball. They lead Boston by two games and Tampa Bay by three in the highly competitive AL East. They are 6-2 in their last eight games including taking two out of three from the Dodgers over the weekend. With a team ERA of 3.95 the Yankees are ranked fifth in the AL. They have a team batting average of .275; fourth best in the AL. This lineups real strength has been their ability to score runs. With 409; an average of 5.45 per game they are second to only Boston in the Majors.
Texas Rangers Odds to win the AL Pennant 12-1 World Series 25-1
The Rangers 11 game winning streak came to an end after a loss to Houston on Friday night, but at 46-29 they now lead the Angels in the AL West by 4 ½ games. During that streak they recorded consecutive three game sweeps over the Marlins, Astros, and Pirates. They are currently ranked fourth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.90. With one of the more formidable lineups in the league, they are ranked first in the Majors with a team batting average of .283 and third in runs scored with 401; an average of 5.35 per game.
Boston Red Sox Odds to win the AL Pennant 9-2 World Series 8-1
Boston has won 11 out of their last 15 games but are just 3-3 in their last six after dropping two out of three to Colorado during the week and taking two out of three from San Francisco over the weekend. With an overall record of 46-31, they are two games in back of New York in the division and lead the wildcard race. The Red Sox are ranked 10th in the AL with a team ERA of 4.27. Their hitting continues to keep them in the race as they have the third best team batting average (.277) in all of baseball and lead the Majors with 423 runs scored; an average of 5.49 per game.
Minnesota Twins Odds to win the AL Pennant 8-1 World Series 15-1
Minnesota has lost five out of their last six games including a three game sweep at the hands of Milwaukee last week. At 41-34, their lead in the AL Central over Detroit is down to a ½ a game with Chicago just 1 ½ games back. Their pitching remains solid as they are ranked second in the AL with a team ERA of 3.89. They are sixth in the AL with a team batting average of .270 and seventh in the league in scoring with 345 total runs.
