The Mets have really turned it on after a mediocre start that was having the folks in Queens say here we go again. Saturday’s loss was their first in seven games and they are currently on a 13-3 hot streak. David Wright may be striking out a ton but he already had more homers than last year and the lineup is looking better as Jose Reyes continues to improve. The big suprise though is the starting pitching. Mike Pelphrey has become the ace and they are getting some unexpected help from guys like R.A. Dickey and Hisanori Takahashi. Don’t worry you are not the only ones saying who and who. All this has taken some pressure of Johan Santana who beat Sabathia when these two teams tangled in May at Citi Field
The Yanks took the second game of the series to stop a mini slide. CC Sabathia has won three starts in a row in nearly mirror like fashion. It goes something like this, 7 innings, 7-8 strikeout and 2-3 runs. With the Yankees bullpen and offense this kind of consistency is why he is paid the big bucks. Now they just need one of their other high earners, 1B Mark Teixeira to start pulling his weight. This seems unlikely as Santana has been effective against him throughout his career. The switch hitter has a .233 average against the lefty which is higher than his current average…sadly. Both teams are in tight races in their respective divisions but this game important too. If the Mets wins they can claim the season series. The Yanks need this to tie it up.
Prediction: This is a hard one to call. The Mets have been so hot but it is not like the Yanks have been stinking up the joint. I am going to lean NYY based on the pride factor. Love this one to be low scoring.
