Seattle has lost the first two games of the series and is now on a 4 game losing streak. Breaking that run is going to be tough against the Orioles best starter and especially difficult given that the Mariners have been just awful in the third game of series’ (they are just 2-9 in that situation this season). To grab a victory they are going to have get a very good outing from starter Jason Vargas who has been getting pounded of late with an ERA of 5 over his last three starts. One ray of hope here is that Vargas was very sharp in his last start against the O’s, but that was more than a year ago when Baltimore was just plain awful – many of the faces have changed since then. Unfortunately there is not much to get behind with Seattle in this one unless you think Vargas is going to answer the bell as the lineup is Ichiro Suzuki and not much else.
The Baltimore Oriole’s have certainly been struggling since their hot start in April. This team thought they were closer to contending justifying investments in veteran players like Derrek Lee and Mark Reynolds which haven’t paid off at all. Even though the lineup has been punchless at times it is the rotation that has been the primary culprit in their losing. Very early they were getting quality outings throughout the rotation but the only pitcher who has kept it up has been tonight’s starter Zach Britton. He is the only starter with an ERA under 4 on a team with only 2 other pitchers (both in the bullpen) who can claim that. He is not pitching deep into games but he is giving them a chance to win almost every time out.
The odds makers have the Baltimore Orioles as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 8.

Prediction: Baltimore gains a sweep behind a strong outing by Britton, scratching out enough offense to get the victory.
