Cleveland Indians (72-73) vs Texas Rangers (84-64)
Wednesday September 14 – 7:05 PM on MLB TV
Pitching Probables: David Huff vs Derek Holland
Spread: Texas Rangers -1.5
Money Line: Texas Rangers -210 / Cleveland Indians +175
Over/Under: 10
I think it is safe to say that Cleveland’s chances for 2011 are extinguished. After a nice early part of the season they haven’t had the staying power needed and Detroit roared past them to create the largest lead of any division on the majors. It is no real surprise but the Indians can still exceed expectations by finishing the season strong. However, Texas has really had their number this year beating them 7 of 8 times, but they have yet to face tonight’s starter David Huff. Last year Huff pitched a complete game 4 hitter for a 3-2 victory over the Rangers and has been a solid contributor over the past month while the team has been struggling. Given the dynamics of the game tonight he is the only reason to get behind the Indians side and that might not be enough.

The Texas Rangers are holding steady in the AL West. They have a three game lead over the Anaheim Angels and that hasn’t fluctuated much over the last few weeks. As stated earlier they have owned the Indians this year including last night’s series opener – a 10-4 victory. The Rangers are also getting healthier with the return from injury of slugging outfielder Nelson Cruz. Starter Derek Holland’s success against the Indians has been mixed this year. The team has won both of his starts but they couldn’t have been more different: a complete game shutout at Cleveland and a disaster at home (6 runs in less than 2 innings). As long as he is somewhere in the middle Texas can continue their mastery over the Indians.
The odds makers have the Texas Rangers as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 10.
Prediction: Texas gets just enough pitching to let their offense claim the victory and maintain their lead in the AL West.
Score Prediction: Texas Rangers – 7, Cleveland Indians – 4
