The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to extend their winning streak to three when the face off against NL West rival the San Francisco Giants in game two of a three game series on Saturday at Chavez Ravine.
Andrew Either hit two homers including his first career grand slam in the second inning lifting the Dodgers to a 10-8 victory over San Francisco in game one Friday night at Dodger Stadium.
Starting pitcher Vicente Padilla (1-1) allowed three runs and four hits over seven innings and struck out seven while Matt Kemp tied a career best by homering in his fourth straight game. Trailing 10-3, the Giants erupted for five runs in the ninth, including a two-out three run homer from Eugenio Velez off reliever Ramon Troncoso who was finally able to slam the door, preserving the win.
The Giants will go with two-time NL Cy Young winner, Tim Lincecum on the mound. The 25-year-old right-hander has already posted two wins in two starts this season with a 1.29 ERA. He opened the season with a 6-3 win over Atlanta where he went seven innings allowing just two runs on five hits while fanning 10 batters. “The Freak” followed up with a second win at Houston six days later, surrendering no runs on five hits while striking out seven. Lincecum is 3-1 in six career starts against the Dodgers with 3.38 ERA.
Los Angeles will counter with righty Charlie Haeger, who will make his first career start against the Giants. Haeger has to no decisions this season, the first coming in his season debut against the Florida Marlins that ended in a 6-5 loss. The 26 year old surrendered three runs on three hits but responded with 12 strikeouts in six innings. Haeger would be called upon in the Dodgers marathon outing against the Diamondbacks earlier this week, coming on as a reliever in the ninth. He pitched a single inning before Los Angeles succumbed to a 9-7 defeat two innings later. Haeger is 0-0 in two appearances versus the Giants lifetime, with an ERA of 6.75.
Odds makers have the Giants at –160, while placing the Dodgers at +140 for game two.
Dodger slugger Manny Ramirez, who was 0-for-2 in game one, left after three innings during because of tightness in his right calf. His return for Saturday’s game has not yet been determined.
I expect the Giants to bounce back getting a road win behind another MVP pitching performance from Lincecum, splitting the series at one game apiece.
