Pitching Probables: Armando Gallaraga vs. Brian Duensing
Its amazing how often divisional opponents play each other in baseball. This is game #13 between these two rivals, with Minnesota having taken seven of the first twelve. The Tigers are essentially out of it, although they have made up some ground recently, winning 7 of their last 10. How are they doing it? Well its not hard when you get to play 6 games in a row against the Indians and Royals. The pitching has also been much better of late. Only once in the last 10 games has a starter not gone 6 innings and tonight’s starter Armando Gallaraga has given up only one run in his last 13. On offense the lineup is still depleted but Miguel Cabrera has been making up for it big time – he was 6 for 17 with a couple of homers in their most recent series against the Jays and is currently on a 12 game hit streak.
Minnesota has a 4 game lead over the White Sox but with their addition of Manny Ramirez they know they will have to play well down the stretch to hold them off and make the playoffs. Target Field has proven to be a pretty cozy place, they are tied for the fewest home losses in the American League have beaten the Tigers 5 of 6 times there. Starter Bruan Duensing is new to the rotation but he has been very sharp. The Twins are 4-1 when he takes the hill and are a perfect 2-0 at home when he starts. Despite his success he is not a big name so you can get pretty good value when he takes the hill. I expect that his run of both luck and success will continue this evening. The Tigers don’t have much to play for these days and most of the trend/system data favours Minnesota.
Prediction: Minnesota takes game one of the series with their usual solid play. They are just tough to beat at home and Galarraga is not the one to do it.
Minnesota is -180 and the O/U is 8.5.
Score Prediction:
Minnesota Twins – 6
Detroit Tigers – 3
